Good Evening All,

Currently running Reckon Accounts 2013 on windows xp machines, storing data files on a windows 2003 appliance server which is running the datafile manager service.

We are moving to a Linux NAS running fedora core 13 (maybe  19) after some options.

Currently our users access the company files via a network share, so i am not sure if we need the data file manager (maybe i am missing something)

Any feedback or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Aaron

    Hi Aaron,

    Welcome to the Reckon Community.

Yes, you will be able to access your data file from the Linux NAS drive, but there is a special way of doing it.

You cannot install the Database Server Manager, which Accounts Business needs, on the Linux NAS as it does not have a Windows Operating System.

You will need to specify one PC to act as the 'Host' PC and on this PC install Accounts Business with the option Reckon Accounts and Company file Server.

This Host PC must always be switched on.

When you access the company file  on the Linux NAS you will get a message to the effect that Accounts Business found the file but could not access it as that computer needs further configuration.  It will also give you the option for an 'Alternate Setup'.  You will need to accept this alternate setup.

In effect you will end up with a Peer to Peer network where the Host PC treats the the LInux NAS as an attached external drive.  The other PCs must have Accounts Business installed with the option Reckon Accounts Only.  Accounts Business on these other PCs will now find a path to the company file using the Database Server Manager on the Host PC installation.

Hope this gets you up and running.

    regards,
    John
