Reactivate Non Subscriber Reckon Accounts Premier Edition 2015

This software was purchased outright but use is prevented with a message demanding reactivation.

The software works on the computer and we do not require new software. I just want to keep on using the software as it is without Reckon preventing ongoing use.

What is the answer that does not require moving to renewal or annual subscription?

Advice from the call centre essentially said to link the software to an unused annual subscription for another business and you will have no problem. All resolved for now but now becomes an annual problem with software that can never go back to perpetual and conversion even more difficult! This is not an acceptance that what was owned and working well has been turned into a scam solution. How much do the call centres earn as a bonus for achieving this win. Do not think they have not spent a lot of time at corporate head office working on how to get money out of the old non-subscription model. A lot more time that actually improving the software.

The morality of the business is sociopathic. No amount of fine print can alter that Reckon have been criticized and penalised by the ACCC for their conduct. This matter has been referred to ACCC so the cost of the penalty toward us will be paid by other consumers. The Management have no moral or ethical grounds and any legal address process does not change the morality of an organisation that takes money for no work and their self serving interests and personal lifestyle.

Abuse through greed comes to mind. Get Zapped for your unhelpful advice and lack of appreciation of right and wrong.

Not so clever, W10. Certaily there is a well, appreciated group of in the population who lack the empathy gene. It effects all aspects of the personal life and particularly those around them. It is possible to learn.

@Tophealth Unfortunately, the basis behind it is due to changes in government legislation (eg STP etc) Accounting software providers are legally bound to compliance & are therefore not permitted to continue providing &/or supporting non-compliant products. Back in 2015, STP (& other accounting/payroll requirements) didn’t exist. As legislation changes have gradually been implemented, accounting software providers have had to develop their software products to comply with this 😳

@Zappy It's based on the product & it's overall compliance, regardless of what specific features a User may or may not choose to utilise.

STP is just one example - there have been multiple new legislative instruments introduced in the last 6 years including TPAR, ABN/GST validation & simplified BAS to name just a few. Compliance for accounting software providers is based on their products, it would be impossible to service based on each User's own specifications.

I'm not saying it's ideal, just trying to provide a little balance to the debate & some of the reasoning behind why accounting software providers have needed to do this.

Please read my comment Zappy - I don't make the rules & I'm not saying I agree with them, I'm simply explaining that legislation is what has ultimately driven this change. User frustration over these changes should be directed more at Government than anywhere else.

You obviously haven’t read my comments regarding multiple legislative changes (not just payroll-related) Zappy, as your response to that doesn’t make sense.

At the risk of appearing to repeat myself, and actually repeating myself, I’m simply trying to provide more insight as to the background factors affecting the current situation.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting the User’s predicament is “funny” - My tongue-in-cheek banter with Kris was not directed there (& to be honest, from this thread, I don’t think I’M the one who’s offended the client here, but OK 😊)

Think I’ll just leave it there & move on … Perhaps you should do the same 😁

This thread seems to have run its course now so all I can add is that this certainly hasn't been an easy or hasty decision however unfortunately we can no longer continue supporting older versions of software and as such Reckon no longer services old sunsetted versions of the Reckon Accounts Business desktop software.

As Shaz has mentioned, there are certainly legislative considerations we need to take into account, in particular Single Touch Payroll and how that is continually evolving along with the incompatibility of older versions on new technology and OS which it hasn't been designed or tested on/for.

I can certainly appreciate this may pose more than an inconvenience at the outset and we're looking to make the transition for our customers to a current, supported product as smooth as possible if that's what you decide. To that end, the customer service team have created highly discounted offers for users with older sunsetted versions which it looks like you've either already taken advantage of which is great or spoken to the team about.

My Windows 10 runs Accounts Premier 2015 impeccably. It is a bookkeeping accounting software. The tradition of double entry bookkeeping is not that challenging and essentially has not changed. The requirements of Government and need for compliance are those of the taxpayer. The functionality required is the same as the 2010 version. Having paid for the software, not a subscription I do not expect that I have to enter into and transaction to pay a company juts to keep old software going. If the operating system changes and I cannot use the software them there is an obvious reason to change. The current situation is not one of generosity from Reckon but one of exploitation, which I do not regard as appropriate for any business. All the wizz-bang changes to respond to the Government can be done by other means. If my car runs on diesel and they ban diesel it is not up to the manufacturer to come around and repossess the care. That is called theft.

I have a perpetual license from 2017, I purchased in the understanding that by paying extra (about $800+) that I wouldn't have to upgrade ever. isn't that what perpetual means? I am a sole trader, have no employees, no payroll, don't use it for tax purposes only for invoicing and customer list and item list. I don't need updates or any reason to go online with it. I even do local backups. I cant understand why reckon wont let me keep using it the way it is. One of the reasons I purchased tis item is often I have know internet as I live in the bush.

After several phone calls I was told that the license couldnt be used.. Below is what was showed up when trying to reactivate the license.

    Warning:
