Payroll Premier registration issue

Hi there
I've installed PP 2022/23 on a customer site and am prompted to register the software on startup over and over again. I have registered the software 4(!) times as a "re-registration" as the customer used 2021/22 before and once as a new registration. Each time, the site tells me the registration was successful and gives me the registration number. However when I close the software and start it again, it tells me it was unregistered and needed to be registered within 21 days.
Am I missing something here?
