Upgrading Reckon v8 data file

I am trying to assist a client to upgrade his old Quicken v8 to a more modern version.

I have tried updating from Quicken v8 - Quicken 2004 trial. When doing this the data file requests a password even though there is no password set on the original file

The client has a copy of Quicken 2009. The upgrade instructions for this indicate the file should first be updated to Cashbook 2004 Trial which is included on the CD. This upgrade succeeds with no password prompt and the file opens correctly

When i then try to open this upgraded file in Quicken 2009, i receive an error indicating qb3.dll could not be loaded

According to the information found at the link below i should install the trial of Home and Business 2005/06 using the license key supplied below.

When i try downloading and then activating Home and Business 2005/06 with the supplied license key the online activation fails and i then call quicken support for a telephone activation.

Support were unable to activate this for me, claiming that this is a personal copy and is licensed to someone else. Once the support agent realised what was happening he then redirected me to here

TLDR.. Client has a Quicken v8 file that needs updating to atleast Personal 2009 or Deluxe 2013 and cannot get any further than updating it to CB 2004

    Dear @adorain ,

The password feature that gets applied is due to the file upgrading too suddenly.

You will need the bridging edition of Quicken 2002 in order to upgrade it to 2004, then up again to more modern editions.

This can't be normally downloaded from the Reckon downloads page - however, if you or the client has a license for 2002, you can download it from the Member's Website ( https://members.reckon.com/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx ).

It should appear as Quicken Personal Plus 2002.

Upgrading it should not require a password.

    Dear @adorain ,

If you have a valid Professional Partner license, you can download and install 2002 on your system, and upgrade it that way.

If not, just let me know, and I'll see what I can get for your client's upgrade.
