"Next job" function missing in Reckon hosted

Hi. We have just moved from Reckon Enterprise desktop to Reckon Hosted. We have a few issues - any advice would be reatly appreciated.

Firstly, when entering large numbers of customer jobs with similar details into Entrerprise, we would always use the "Next" button as it retained many of the details. We have noticed that this button doesn't exist on Reckon Hosted. This is making us do a lot of extra data entry that was avoided in Reckon Enterprise. We were told that Hosted was i dentical to Enterprise, just online. Am I missing something or is there some way that the customer jobs can be set up so that it functions similarly to Enterprise?

Secondly, the decimal point on our number pad on our keyboards often doesn't work. If we kee pressing numbers and the decimal point, it eventually starts to work - very frustrating.

The other issues we have are things thoat I have seen other people discuss on the forum with no resolutions from what I can see - one is slow printing and the other is copy/paste not always working (very random when it does work).

Thanks in advance. Kristy

Try a different browser & see if that resolves the inconsistency with the Next button ☺️

Over time, the data in a file can get defragmented (just like the files/data on your computer), links can get disconnected & data can get corrupted. These aren’t usually things we can see as an end user (more the technical/coding behind the scenes but not my area of expertise so can’t really offer any further explanation in that department 😆)

Resorting the lists helps to reorder them properly & verifying the file helps keep the file “clean” & stable.

If you’re saving Backups - which you should be - you should ALWAYS Verify the file FIRST. If there are any corruption/issues with that backup & you ever need to use (eg ”Restore”) that backup file, it will not work & you will have lost all that data!

Verifying the file “checks” it & will advise you if it finds errors. Subsequently, it will then prompt you to Rebuild the file in order to attempt to “fix” it.

The “TLG” file (with the .tlg extension) is an additional, automatically-created system file which is stored where your company file lives which - for RAH - is on the Q Drive. This post explains it in more detail:

    Hope that helps 😁

Hosted is indeed identical in functionality to desktop Enterprise. Have you checked all your various “Preferences” settings (under the Edit dropdown menu)?

No, we didn't test it. We had to change because of the way our computer systems are set up over two different sites (IT issues etc forced us too. Going back isn't really an option.

I have looked at the preferences, but can't see anything that would relate to this option.

Have you tried accessing it using a different browser? The Next button for subsequent jobs should be there once you’ve created the FIRST job under THAT customer.

Do you verify the file regularly? The delay may be related to the stability &/or size of the file.

I’d recommend re-sorting all lists, Verify the file, run the Rebuild 3 times (3 Rebuilds fixes a lot of issues for some reason! 😁), delete the .tlg file, then save & restore a Portable copy of the file.

This should optimise the file data & reduce the file size.

So, I was entering in a lot of jobs and suddenly the "Next" button appeared. I thought that I may have accidentally pressed something. I finished entering that job and then went back onto the main customer and the "Next" button was missing again. I know that the keyboard shortcut for the "Next" function was the "Alt" key plus "N" so I tried it and hte button appeared. It is obviously some glitch, but at least if we know how to get the button to appear we can use the function.

    Thanks for your help. Kristy

Hi Shaz. I thought about trying a different browser. I have gotten the button to appear (see my earlier comment) but not "properly".

I didn't realise that you were supposed to verify the data regularly. What does the verifying, re-sorting and rebuilding do? Should I be doing all of these things regularly? And I don't even know what the .tlg file is..... We just "use" the software and accidentally find out new things as we go along. No-one in our office has had any official training and none of us are even bookkkeepers or accountants so we may not do things the best or most efficient way, but we do manage most of the time. Changing browsers is worth a try for testing purposes to pinpoint a problem and possibly it’s cause. Doesn’t have to be permanent

I dont think it is your data that is causing problems but actual computer setup, without seeing it it is hard to visualise, I could log in and watch it happening, just call me if you wish.

Thanks, Gerry. We have worked out that if we do the kepboard shortcut for the "Next" function, the button appears - we are happy with that. Thanks for the offer though. Kristy
