My copy of Reckon personal plus 2019 crashed

My copy of Reckon Personal 2019 crashed last night with error code 6955 when I try to save to my thumb drive. Lost all of January data which fortunately was able to backfill. The real problem I now have is that the load screen asks me if I am a new user or previous user. Selecting previous owner I am able to load a copy saved to my hard drive. Certainly it is looking for my license number but I do not know where to go from here. Any help much appreciated. Ron

    Dear @ronnieg ,

If Reckon Personal is asking for a license key, then it's entirely possible Reckon did not have full permissions to your USB/thumb drive when you tried to backup, and is now experiencing an internal issue where it does not recognise the default location for your company file.

    I would recommend the following:

    1. Run Reckon Accounts Personal 2019 as Administrator.
    2. When it prompts if you are a new or existing user, select Existing User.
    3. Open your file in C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Quicken\.
    4. Once it has opened this file, close the program.
    5. Open it normally. It should now load the software/file without issue.

In future, please ensure you save any changes to the default Reckon Personal Plus file location in your Documents. If you need to save a copy to your thumb drive, it would be beneficial to simply copy the file from your Documents to your thumb drive using the Copy and Paste function.

    Kind regards,

Hi Alexis, I have tried everything you suggested. It did not work as I am still presented with the same welcome screen. I can go into File Explorer and find the Qdata file in the Quicker file folder. Also. I do not find a Run as Administrator on my laptop. My work is being done on a relatively new, less than two years old, Lenovo Ideapad Slim1 laptop with Windows 11. Although Reckon Personal has run fine since I installed the program, the problem started after I ran a compatibility program for another older program which required a comms/port issue to be resolved by changing those settings back to Windows 7 settings as the software is old and the company will not update it saying instead to just find an old computer to run their program but most people have been able to get it to eventually work with Windows 11. Sorry I digressed a bit but just to add clarity. Kind Regards, Ronnieg

    Dear @ronnieg ,

You should be able to run Reckon Accounts Personal Plus as Administrator by doing the following:

    1. Right-Click on the Reckon Accounts Personal Plus icon on the desktop.
    2. Select Run as Administrator.
    3. Ensure you are opening the file on Documents\Quicken\ and not OneDrive\Documents\Quicken\.

If you should still have issues, you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling the product under a new license key.

    Kind regards,

Agree. However it appears my only currently working file copy is only available via one drive and not the backup file under C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Quicken\.
unsure even if I went down the path of deleting my copy and reinstalling software that I do not have a saved file in the right location to load into the refreshed copy. Regards, Ronnieg

    Dear @ronnieg ,

You will likely need to move the file off of OneDrive and back to the default location under your own documents.

Having the file in OneDrive increases the likelihood of issues when backing up/restoring the file/opening the file.

If OneDrive moves the file back into its own folders, you may need to contact your IT Support and have them disable OneDrive copying/moving files off of your personal Documents.

Thanks for trying to help me with this problem Alexis. However, I am a retired and private operator with no IT Support to count on and your suggestions are above my capabilities of computer operations. Do you have any other options such as linking onto my laptop and perform all the options you suggest???

    Kind regards, Ronnieg

    Dear @ronnieg ,

As OneDrive is a Windows application, I can't quite fully guide you on how to disable it.

I would recommend attaining assistance from Microsoft's own help articles/guides so that you can continue using Reckon Accounts Personal Plus without any further issues.

You can find the Microsoft Community Answers page here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ - keep in mind, this is for general information around Windows/Microsoft. You may need to reach out there for further answers.

    Hi @ronnieg and @GerryWinter

Is there anything in solving your problem that may benefit the 'community' to know? Even if it just relates to Microsoft set up.

Hi John, in working with Gerry earlier this evening it was determined that my version of Reckon Personal was 2019, a bit old and may have contributed to the crash. Gerry made a new folder called Reckon Data and moved a bunch of my files on my hard drive to the new folder. Much of this process I did not understand. Tomorrow morning Gerry will help me upgrade my software. Maybe Gerry can even expand on what he did to help the group if a similar problem is encountered by another member. Regards, Ronnieg
