Clean Uninstall and Reinstall of Accounts Personal

Question

How do I perform a clean uninstall and reinstall of Accounts Personal (formerly Quicken)?

Answer

It is sometimes necessary to perform a clean un-install to remove residual Reckon Accounts Personal (formerly Quicken) installation files and folders left behind by Microsoft’s Programs and Features (XP: Add or Remove Programs).

Ensure that you have a good backup of your data files. If you do not have a backup, go to the file location and copy all the files to a USB stick, external Hard Disk, CD or DVD and to another location on your computer.

If you have attachments to your transactions (scanned receipts) you must same this folder separately.

The compressed backup (*.rkn) will include the auxiliary files that accompany your data file – these have the file extensions of QSD, QEL, QPH, QIL, HCX, IDX, QHI, RWC.   Your datafile has the extension .QDF.  If you perform

Detailed Instructions

Firstly, attempt to uninstall your programme again. You can do this through the Control Panel, but it will be preferable to use a 3rd party uninstaller that will make a more thorough uninstall.  You can download the free Revo Uninstaller here.  

Secondly, in Windows Explorer, remove all other Reckon Accounts Personal files and folders from your PC:


Windows 10, 8, 7& Vista

  1. Ensure that the hidden files and folders are shown (see Viewing hidden files and folders on a Windows system on how to view hidden files and folders)
  2. In the C:\Program Data\Intuit folder, right-click the Reckon Accounts Personal (or Quicken) folder, select Delete, and confirm
  3. In the C:\Users\<logged in user>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\ Reckon Accounts Personal folder, select the Data folder, and then copy it to a safe location on your hard drive

Note: You might not have a Data folder unless Quicken 2007 or Quicken 2008 is your first version of Quicken

  1. In the C:\Users\<logged in user>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit folder, right-click the Reckon Accounts Personal folder, select Delete, and then confirm
  2. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each Windows user
  3. In the C:\Program Files folder, right-click the Reckon Accounts Personal installation folder, select Delete, and then confirm
  4. Empty the C:\Temp folder and the Recycle Bin
  5. Restart your computer, and then re-install Reckon Accounts Personal using the enclosed Selective startup document
  6. Once you have reached step 9 on the selective startup document follow these steps

    1. Insert your Reckon Accounts Personal CD into your CD ROM drive
    2. The installation screen automatically appears. Close the window
    3. Double click the Computer icon which can be located either on your desktop or through the Windows Start menu
    4. Right click on your CD ROM drive and choose Explorer
    5. Double click HAB Folder
    6. Double click DISK1 folder

    1. Right click ISsetup.exe > left click Run as administrator and follow the onscreen installation prompts

 

Windows XP

  1. Ensure that the hidden files and folders are shown (see here on how to view hidden files and folders)
  2. In the C:\Documents and Settings\<logged in user>\Application Data\Intuit\Reckon Accounts Personal (or Quicken) folder, select the Data folder, and then copy it to a safe location on your hard drive

Note: You might not have a Data folder unless Quicken 2007 or Quicken 2008 is your first version of Quicken

  1. In the C:\Documents and Settings\<logged in user>\Application Data\Intuit folder, right-click the Reckon Accounts Personal folder, select Delete, and then confirm
  2. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each Windows user
  3. In the C:\Program Files folder, right-click the Reckon Accounts Personal installation folder, select Delete, and then confirm
  4. Empty the Recycle Bin
  5. Restart your computer, and then re-install Reckon Accounts Personal using the enclosed Selective startup document
  6. Once you have reached step 9 on the selective startup document follow the below steps
    1. Insert your Reckon Accounts Personal CD into your CD ROM drive
    2. The installation screen automatically appears. Close the window
    3. Double click the Computer icon which can be located either on your desktop or through the Windows Start menu
    4. Right click on your CD ROM drive and choose Explorer

Download the old Windows Installer cleanup utility from: library.reckon.com.au/library/zip/WindowsInstallerCleanUp.zip

Click here for instructions to install this utility.

Ensure that no Reckon Accounts Personal products are in the utility list. Remove as required.

Warning:  Microsoft has warned against using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as it may have has unknown detrimental effects on the computer environment.

Repeat steps 1 to 9
