Accounts Hosted - Estimate subtotal not affected by 'Accounts include tax'

A client today asked that I redo an estimate as the subtotal amount did not match the sum of all the line items. This was because I had 'Accounts include tax' on. If I turn this off, each line item is without GST, and the sum matches the subtotal. To ease things so I can get the PO raised, I resent the estimate with 'Accounts include tax' off.

This seems like a bug to me; IMHO the Subtotal should reflect the sum of the line item amounts, whether they be with or without GST.

The only work around I can think of is to remove the Subtotal footer entry all together.

    Hi Jon

I can see what you’re saying but by definition, a “Subtotal” is usually determined before taxes (eg GST) whereas a “Total” is the full amount payable (eg incl GST) so the subtotal is correctly consistent, regardless of net or gross display.

Quotes/Estimates are usually provided on a “plus GST” basis so that’s probably why your client required the net line values.

If need be, I add “(excl GST) to the “Subtotal” label on a client’s form template to eliminate any confusion  :)
