Hi everyone,

We're very happy to let you know of two new enhancements available in Reckon Accounts Hosted to help you work more efficiently.

IMPROVED PRINTING
We have reduced the number of clicks required for you to print your documents including purchase orders, reports, payslips, invoices and more. This means you can now print faster.

REMOVAL OF THE CLIPBOARD IN CHROME ON PC
You can now copy and paste directly in Chrome (on PC) without using the clipboard. You can also use Ctrl+C (for copy) and Ctrl+V (for paste) on your keyboard to copy and paste info.

The new enhancements will be rolled out to on Wednesday, 17 January 2018.

We are always working to make Accounts Hosted more efficient for you and we hope these enhancements will help improve your processes.

Brilliant news Rav.  I will be waiting to see the effects and thank everybody at Reckon for the work that has gone into making the very beneficial and needed change.

Excuse my naivety, how can I save Invoices etc in PDF (to my computer) now that the option isn't available when you press print any more?

Hi Jean.  Perhaps you are jumping the gun as the announcement did say that this will only be rolled out on Wednesday 17/1/2018.  I do note however, that you are correct in that at present the view step defaults to the local printer and that neither of the Reckon PDF printers work.  In the meantime, I suggest that you use Internet Explorer 11 as it works perfectly there.  Then hold your breath and hope that everything works ok on Wednesday.  An alternative is to print to your own PDF printer program if you have one.

It was a genuine question John, I couldn't figure it out at the time hence why I asked. I'm not as computer savvy as most but have since realised I can save to PDF by changing the printer location.

Hi, now when we print our invoices, the bottom of our invoice is being cut off and not printing, it seems now with the upgrade that everything has moved down the page, can this be fixed your end?

Hi Michelle.  Have a look at my post some four hours or so ago (the second one, not the first one).  There you will find details of a fix that I found.  There is another alternative, but similar one via a slightly different route.  Follow this:

1.  Go to File> Printer Setup, then select the form that you are having problems with (Tax Invoice - bottom of the list)

2.  You will then see the greyed out Reckon Printer (re-directed 94) on T5003.  Against this there is an Options button.  Click on this.

3.  The next page will have the "traditional" type printer options.  Select the Paper/Finishing tab along the top.  Then change the paper size to A4 instead of Letter size. Then hit the Save button (near bottom on right hand side.  You will then be given an option to name your Custom Setting which will appear in the box above.

What I don't know at this stage is how long the setting stays in place, but you can easily select your Custom Setting again (if it changes back to Letter Size) by going back to that box in the Printer Settings under Options.  I have found that when I change the paper size, my Template returns to what it used to be, in other words it is now set to A4 size instead of Letter Size, meaning that things should no longer run of the bottom of the page.

Last week I was using this new print feature and it was marvellous.  Today it's gone back to previous version of having to click through 6 or 7 times just to print.   Am I doing something wrong??

Hi Christine,

Glad to hear you liked the new change while it was active. Unfortunately, a few issues did become apparent following the upgrade and the best, most appropriate course of action for us was to rollback Australian Hosted users to the previous environment while we review & work out these issues.

There's more info on this here -

Happy to see these changes finally happening :-)

I would be interested to know when an upgrade might be happening that makes it possible to export more than 256 columns into an Excel spreadsheet, there are reports I have never been able to export due to their size in 10 years of using Reckon Accounts, yet Excel has overcome this limitation back in 2007!

To print an invoice/statement etc and also save it as a pdf it will now take me twice as long as I have to do the process twice and change settings each time. Is there a way to do this in one, or have the option to have the preview window back?
Will I also have to change my print settings back to A4 from letter each day for every template?

thanks, now i have to re-do all my set ups as it has changed all layouts - just don't have time for this. YES thank you for reducing how many clicks it takes to print but i liked that it popped up in another page so just in case i was Interrupted i could always go back now its going to take longer as you have to stop printing and then hit the print button again

Matthew.  Great upgrade indeed, more appropriately described as an unmitigated disaster.  We have gone one step forward and 12 - 15 years backwards to the time when all upgrades required customised templates to be re-done.  The problem now is that Reckon has elected to increase the margin at the top of forms by at least 15mm, thereby totally throwing everything out of whack at the bottom of customised forms.  Now we have this great white unusable space at the top of forms, causing the bottom 15mm to go off the page.

RAV, what is the fix for this?  We need this fixed pronto please.

How come Reckon has not bothered to test this out beforehand or used some users as testers, before releasing what can only be described as a total mess?

I think its a tad dramatic in labeling this update a disaster or mess John.

This update was indeed thoroughly tested internally prior to its release, by Partners before wider release and also immediately before and after rollout yesterday. Realistically, there is always the possibility that something goes awry despite our best efforts and intentions and evidently, it looks as though some users are experiencing issues with altered templates.

The team are already investigating this and I'll let you know when I have further information. They believe it could related to altered paper size settings so if your print settings state 'Letter', change it back to A4 and confirm if there is any change.

Rav, I tried altering paper size and it does make a difference, however, the templates are still out of scale and some sections were still being cut off. The print preview shows correctly with scale and nothing cut off but when you go to the print page it shows and prints incorrectly. I had to manual alter our templates and print settings to get it almost back to where it was.

Rav. In response to your reply.  Perhaps I might have been a tad dramatic, so I will apologise for that.  Why?  Because I have found my own fix, by accident, which as alluded to by somebody else, requires one to amend the options for the Reckon Printer to change the page size from Letter to A4.  When I do that, the invoice prints perfectly to my printer, and if I go to the Layout Designer in the Template, no longer does it regard the template as having to be on Letter size, but it now treats it correctly as being A4 size and does not move the "overflow" fields to the top of the page..  Without further testing, I would suggest that this change to the Printer Options, will allow all previous templates to behave correctly.

However, I now have another problem, as somebody else has pointed out.  There is now no apparent option available as to where to direct the print job to and so it goes off to what was probably the default printer on my computer, at the start of the day.  I want to send the print job to my own PDF program but there is no option to select another printer anymore.  Even if I change my default printer to my own PDF program, the print job still gets sent the main printer in the office.  What is the workaround for that issue please?

Hi Rav, seeing you are doing all these changes with printing and now is taking twice as long to print and save invoices and quotation by pressing the buttons twice can you add a SAVE button next to the print button?

With the printing problems I've been experiencing this arvo and fighting with online support, I had a massive chuckle when I looked up at my Tab and saw Reckon Icon and next to that, it says ip.

Put it together and it says RIP Reckon Accounts Hosted bahahah    might wanna change that in an update guys!!

Hi RAV.  After extensive testing, I can report the following issues to you, regarding printing something like an invoice, when using Internet Explorer

1.  Whilst one can change the Reckon Printer options so that the page size changes from Letter to A4, and save it, this only remains operative whilst the current session is open.  Exit out of Hosted or get kicked out of Hosted and one has to go through the whole process once again.

2.  On one's computer, whichever printer is set as the default, this becomes the only printer available to Hosted during the current session.

3.  If one changes the computer's default printer whilst a Hosted session is open, one can send a test page to the changed printer when making the change, and it works.  However, Hosted has hijacked the original printer which was operative at the time the session opened, and no amount of trying, will allow another default printer to be accessed by Hosted, during that same session.

4.  CTRL P brings up a dialogue box which allows printing to any of the system's printer, but, all that this does is to do a screen shot rather a print of the invoice.  This was the same before the upgrade, so there is no change here.

The tests were done on a Windows 10 machine with 16GB of RAM and using Internet Explorer as the browser of choice.

But wait, there is more and finally some GOOD NEWS.  I decided to try Google Chrome to see what the story was there and, lo and behold, most of the same issues are no longer issues within Chrome.  Pressing the print button acts the same as in IE, but, this time around there is finally a printer dialogue box which allows one to select whatever printer is available, including my own PDF program (in this case Microsoft Print to PDF).  The only issue which still remains, from what I can see, is that changing the printer properties to select A4 instead of Letter, still only remains operative during the current session.  However, as that is easy to fix, I might finally be able to go back to Chrome again.  The only lingering other issue is the fact that some desktop version shortcuts still revert to Windows shortcuts when using Chrome, but I might be happy to live with that, if everything else works OK.

I've just spoken to and provided your notes to the Hosted dev team. They're currently investigating the paper size aspect right now.

In addition, when the first print screen pops up, if you change the number of copies to say 2, when the next print screen pops up it will only print 1 copy, so you have to change it again.
If you always want to print 2 copies, you have to change it every time

Any news/workaround on this as a client of mine prints loads and loads of invoices and the time saving in one aspect is somewhat negated by the number of copies having to be set each time.

Hi Nicolette,
The issue of one print copy along with altered paper size is currently under investigation by the Hosted development team.

A workaround, although not ideal, is to change the number of copies required on the Chrome print screen rather than Hosted (see below screenshot). This will however 'save' so if you need to print a different number of copies for the next invoice, it will need to be changed there.

The default settings to Letter on all forms , requires the format changing to A4 every time you log in to the system. The save button doesn't work. If you work on sales orders , go to print settings change the setting to A4 . Work on invoices go to Print settings change to A4 , Oh do a purchase order go to print settings change to A4. Log out , log in do it all again. Custom settings settings do not save .
I think a fix is in order!

Sure is frustrating Kevin and, more to the point, why have they imposed a default of Letter size in the first place when more than likely almost everybody is using A4?.

Hi Dale.  Nothing.  This has now been removed as part of the automatic process.  Instead, if you want to view, you will need to click on the Preview button in the Reckon Printer dialogue box when it opens.

Dale.  If you use Chrome, once you hit the Print button in the Reckon Printer dialogue box, you will end up with a preview of the document and an ability to select the printer that you want to print to.

Hi all,
For those who are experiencing issues with the altered paper size settings, an alternative workaround while the team are working on things on our end is to use the below settings. This will only need to be done once and the setting will stay in place beyond just the current session.
  1. Customise the Template (either within Invoice or from List > Templates)
  2. Go to Additional Customisation > Print
  3. Tick 'Use specified Printer settings below for this Tax Invoice'
  4. Choose A4 from Paper Size
  5. OK
Update all your template(s) and this setting will be retained.

Hi Rav

Thanks for the work around for the issue of not retaining the A4 setting in printer setup but when will this issue be resolved? I have soooo many templates and don't have time to be setting the print option on all of them. An approximate resolution date would be handy so we can work out whether we need to make time to amend template settings.

Thank you

Hi Larissa,
This is the main issue the Hosted team is working on getting right at the moment along with the single print copy . I don't have a timeframe as yet but I'll update the Community as soon as it becomes apparent.

Sincere apologies for the hassle its causing.
