I am wanting to re-print the 31/03/2018 Bank Reconciliation but can only get back as far as 20/4/2018. Where is the rest of it gone? We have been with Reckon for several years and I would expect to see ALL ??Bank Reconciliations!

The bank reconciliations would only disappear if you happened to merge 2 bank accounts back around that time?  then the bank recs from when they were two separate accounts would not be there anymore?

I wish that were the case, but it is not. We have not merged anything, have not changed anything at all for several years and they still aren't visible.

    Hi Sonja,

It appears that there is a limit of 120 reports to be displayed in the reconciliation report. Please check this KB for more information. http://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=3749

120 reports seem to be a lot given the time frame you are looking for that is only 7 months back. However, depends on how many other bank accounts you have and how frequently you do the reconciliation?

    Regards

    Shisir

Interesting Shisir, I wasnt aware of this... my own datafile is 18 years old - I just counted the number of bank rec reports for my operating bank account - there are 120... I expect there are 120 for my credit card reconciliations too?  so I doubt if that is the cause of Sonja's issue.  Just out of interest Sonja, are you able to find a backup from a couple of months ago - restore it to either Hosted or your desktop - then have a look if the bank rec reports are still there?  Just might give you an indication of when the problem started?

I reconcile our statement every day, so 120 is very little to me given that there are 365 days in the year. Shisir - if there really is a limitation on that, I would like to see where this is disclosed on the website. Surely if there is non-disclosure of this fact that means misrepresentation of the software's ability.

Shisir - I also looked at the link provided and cannot for the life of me me see why on earth customers need to create a workaround just because of inadequate features of the software?

And I just got another one of those childish email about badges - enough! Sort your software out instead and provide the software your customers are paying for.

I think that then explains what is happening Sonja...  I haven't looked at the KB article but if any of my clients wanted to reconcile every day - my suggestion (without knowing about the 120 bank rec limit) would be that they go through the Reconciliation process - get the page to 0.00 each day (ie reconciled) but instead of clicking Reconcile - they click Leave - then they open the next day - and add the next days date and balance and get it to 0.00 again - but only click Reconcile when its the end of the month.  I can understand if you dont find this solution satisfactory for you.  So my next suggestion would be - Take a backup copy of your datafile every month - make sure it has the date on it.  Do your daily reconciliations - but if you need to go back further than the 120 days (approx 3 months), you just need to open a backup copy of the file and your previous 120 reconciliations will be in that file.  To make it even quicker - you could download your backups - open them in your Desktop Enterprise version that you can have with your Hosted subscription - then restore them with a name that enables quick identification, so your bank recs are easily accessible.  Hope this helps.  Regards Linda

PS.  Remember we are working off a code base/architecture that is over 20 years old. 20 years ago, the thought of daily bank reconciliations probably wasn't considered and 120 would have seemed more like almost 10 years worth of reconciliations.  The reason we still use Reckon, and for Accredited Partners like me, love it above all other software, is the flexibility and functionality and reporting features that it always has, and still does, provide over and above the more modern and cool but with less traditional functionality of its rivals today).    It is not always easy to mix modern application ideas and hip new features with older programming languages that never envisaged the wants of today's users.

    Hi Sonja

The bank reconciliation process in accounting software is intended to reconcile with your bank statement itself.  These are usually issued periodically (eg monthly, quarterly etc)  This is the period you should do the "Reconcile" process in RAH.
Of course, you still enter transactions/maintain the correct bank account balances daily but the software reconciliation process should be as per your statement cycles.  This ensures you are able to match opening balance, debits, credits & closing balance per statement correctly each time.

Obviously someone else that doesn't read the full content before making a statement.
As I said before 'I reconcile our bank statements every day'

    ?
?The 'periodically' is not good enough for me. This should be done every day - in every business. Doing this less frequently in my view is laziness.

??And again - that is not the point. The point is that I am not happy for Reckon to take it upon themselves to delete our business records.

    Hi Sonja

Yes, I did read all the content in full - I don't think you read mine though.
I agreed with you that reconciling of the bank account daily in business is essential.  However as I said, this is simply checking/entering transactions to ensure the balances in RA match your online banking transactions & balance(s) daily.
My advice still stands ... The "Reconcile" process within the software is supposed to be done as per your actual bank Statement (hence the field "Statement Date" on the Reconcile screen).

By doing an RAH "Reconciliation" daily, you may be unnecessarily increasing your data file size which may in turn, may cause you avoidable performance/speed issues.  As you've now discovered, it also makes accessing past reconciliations problematic.
Your previous Reconciliations are not being 'deleted' by Reckon - No software can have infinity records, meaning the most historical reconciliation - beyond the 120 per account maximum - will drop off in order to store the latest one.  As a comparison, if you've ever checked your online banking transaction history, you will see this also has a limitation on how far back it can go .....

If you follow the link above you'll see that they are in fact deleted.
And we are way past 'monthly statements' - we just don't get them anymore, so there's little point waiting for something that won't be coming anyway. Our 'actual bank statements' are the statements we receive every day - not like it was in the dark ages.
Not sure what is like in Australia but in NZ ALL ??business records must be held for 7 years. If Reckon can't cope with that, I suggest they don't sell any more products in NZ.
Either way - deleting someone else's records because is just not on and I'm sure there is a law against that. Doing so without the explicit permission of the other party is even worse. And not disclosing the product limitation on the website or any promotional material is the tip of the iceberg. There is just no excuse for it.
