BAS on EasyStart 13

I have been using Quicken Cashbook Ver 8 for many years and it prints an easy BAS form to use. Late last year I upgraded to Reckon Accounts Easystart 13 as I bought a new computer and it wouldn't work with the old Quicken. Since then I cannot find how to print a BAS report and there is no mention of it in the help section or any documentation other than on the box where it says it does BAS on the Australian Version. I rang the general Reckon number and they couldn't help me and suggested the Community or ring for technical support at $5 per minute. I don't mind paying for a quick resolution but as it took 10 minutes for the first person to understand my problem, I thought I would try here first! Thank you for any assistance.

    Hi Tony,

I do not believe there is a BAS looking report as such, just reports which give you the ability to calculate the BAS.

If you look here http://www.reckon.com.au/compare/BusinessRange.aspx you will see that the next version above (Accounting) will provide you with that functionality you are looking for.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Tony,

Welcome to Reckon Community and thank you for the post.

Sorry to hear about that, please note that Reckon Accounts EasyStart dose not have its own separate BAS report function.

As per Sally's comment the program contains multiple reports that can be used to fill out the BAS form manually. If you wish to have this process automated, you will have to upgrade the Accounting software package to Reckon Accounting edition.

Please note that the Track GST and prepare for your BAS on the product box states that
    • GST that you collect or pay is automatically calculated as you enter transactions
    • Simply run reports for all the figures needed to prepare your IAS or BAS
you can find more information here: http://estore.reckon.com.au/74/22/Accounts-EasyStart/more

Thanks Sally, I appreciate your feed back.  The Accounting version says it is for Online BAS lodgement which I didn't want to do, and my interpretation of the statement "Prepare BAS and track GST" was that it would do the same as my Quicken version.  I now see the subtlety of the wording.  I will have another look at the version I have and see if I can get the information to complete the form.  I know I can get the amount of GST to pay, but not sure how easy to get the other fields, so will do some more investigating.  It seems a shame to throw it away to buy another version. (If I had realised this sooner I may have been able to exchange it, but too late now) I use it for a small farming operation and do not want anything too fancy or complicated.

    Thanks again.

Thanks Lax.  I now see the error of my ways, but in defence, the salesperson in the shop looked at the different options with me and as I only wanted the simplest programme that would calculate BAS agreed with this purchase.  My interpretation of "Reports to prepare BAS" was affected by my experience with Quicken which did exactly that in one report, so I assumed that was what I was getting.  I could not lodge it as my BAS, but it gave me the figures I needed.  As I said to Sally, I should have resolved this earlier and exchanged it for a more suitable version, but I have had it for about 10 months and the box is damaged now, so I will try and work out which reports I need to run.  Unfortunately there is no mention of how to easily do this in the help options. If necessary I will look at purchasing the Accounting version, although if I am spending more money I will also look at other options which have been recommended by my accountant.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Hi Tony,

Reckon do offer a pro rata service to upgrade your software when you have purchased the wrong product.

If you would like to email me directly, I am happy to contact Reckon for you to work out what the cost might be?

Then we can compare that with the other options your accountant has mentioned.

    Kind regards,

    Sally McIntosh (sally@samsolutions.com.au)

Hey Amy, if it was purchased from a retailer, it is down to their returns policy. If you are looking to upgrade if you give our team a call on 1800 RECKON they can look into pricing for a higher version. ^Mirko.
