cannot lodge BAS in Premier running Windows 8.1
When I try to lodge my tax in 8.1 I now get an xml file which is opened by Microsoft Word.
How do I get it to open the summary web page and then go to the tax portal?

Hi Mike,It sounds like your file associations for .xml files are pointing to MS Word instead of Internet Explorer. I suggest to check these associations via the Windows Control panel.
The address\location is here > Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations
Then look for .xml in the list, highlight and then select "Change Program" then select Internet Explorer.
Now open up Reckon Accounts Business Premier and attempt to lodge your BAS again.
Mike, also a reminder that Windows 8.1 has not been tested with Accounts Business 2013 and full support will come in the 2014 edition due next year.

Jason Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it didn't work. I also tried to set the association to Chrome and all i got was a link to file:///F:/Users/Mike/Documents/Reckon%20Limited/ExportFiles/qbEAS.XML, which displayed as a blank. Any other suggestions? Also waiting until next year to be able to lodge my BAS is not an option as I lodge about 5 returns monthly which is to big an impost to do manually. Very frustrating. Mike0

Hi Mike,Please make sure the qbEAS file is opening in Internet Explorer and not another browser. If it's not opening in IE then this could be the issue.
You can also try this KB article http://www.quicken.com.au/kb/issue_view.asp?ID=4310 to get it to work if the above does not.
If it is opening in IE and you still have the text only can you try to go to https://bp.ato.gov.au and log into the portal and then point to the qbEAS.xml file.
Jason.

Jason I repointed the association to IE and now when I click on the xml file I get the correctly displayed page, including the link to the Portal. However when I press the lodge button inside the Simplified BAS window, it opens IE with the text view of the file. Any ideas? At least I can lodge, even if it is a more manual process. Thanks Mike0

Hi Mike,
Thanks for informing us.
We have managed to test Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 11 and it worked fine here. This means there might be some settings in the security of IE or other area of PC which might not be allowing a specific sections of the XML file from other software to be send XML files to Internet Explorer. Hence, opening it by itself is working fine. Since this would involve changing or resetting the options of IE we would recommend you talk to your IT person before making any changes.
Please let us know how you go and any possible fixes as it may help other customers
Thank you.
