Is Reckon going to change the copy/paste issue..... it has created so much extra work and time using the clipboard.,,, not looking forward to doing invoicing today as this new process is slowing down the whole process.  I think typing will be quicker!

Yep, agree.
The question I have is simple.  Why???

It just doesn't make sense to disable a standard OS function of being able to cut and paste different applications and across web pages.

There might be an occasion where the clipboard button could be useful, but please don't disable the most basic of tools just to get a pretty button.

Nonsense!!

Hi All,

Using Google Chrome, I ignore the clipboard and CTRL C/CTRL V and it still works within Reckon Accounts - it doesn't if you're copying and pasting from outside Reckon Accounts though.

So question, where are you copying & pasting from?

If it's outside of Reckon Accounts say in Excel or Word, are you processing data outside of Reckon Accounts when you could possibly be using functionality within the software to achieve the results you are after??

I have used features of the software to minimise re-keying of data for many of my clients and sometimes just requires "thinking outside the square".  Whenever I see clients using Excel/Word, I always try to negate that and use other tools for efficiency gains and less re-keying.....just some food for thought.

Regardless of where the information is coming from it is just plain stupid that they have disabled cut and paste functionality across various data sources.

In my case most of the data comes from my own web page or outlook, thunderbird, or a variety of web pages.

Using the current implementation of the "clipboard" is just a pain & clumsy

I use C&P ***frequently*** to copy info from customers purchase orders addresses etc into our invoices. This double handling of copying and pasting from outside the software to inside clipboard then to the box , is **extremely*** inconvenient for me. As is the double handling when exporting info into excel, for e.g.  I can no longer export directly into my existing month by month reports for example,  i have to save to Q drive then to my computer and then copy it to my month by month report. Why we do things the way we do it is irrelevant, this package need to serve our own individual needs. AND the loss of the printing to local printing is a pain in the proverbial. All together it has increased my time doing my job hugely. We are all time POOR small business owners. We don't need this stuff (i want swear here but won't) to add to our stress!!! I am extremely frustrated with Reckon.

I absolutely agree, I am looking to change the software altogether. Quickbooks thinks that we are entertaining here each other, giving each other ideas, solutions  and warm     fuzzy, and crying on each other's shoulder will lessen our disappointments. No, the software as it is now is unusable, frustrating, slow. I am using QB since 2000, time to go over to another software provider.
Cut and paste is an absolute MUST have, speed is absolute must have, we are in the 21st century.

I can see both of your pain levels and I agree - was just posing the above scenario in the hope that it may assist those who are perhaps not maximising the software and I acknowledge that it does not help either of you in any way.  Your scenarios are common and should be considered for review

If Reckon does not fix this problem asap I for see a mass exit of customers from Reckon. Invoicing is a gruelling process now.

Yes David you are so right, but it's not that easy to walk away. Its not like changing brands of XYZ.  I have partners/managers OS who all need to access my data as well. Do we ALL need to learn a new system? its not just invoicing either....it's the exporting too.  And how user friendly is the opposition? How easy is it to transfer Reckon data into a new program?

Karen, I agree, not easy to walk away after being with the system for 10+ years.  The big question, which remains unanswered is WHY DID THEY DO THIS!  Why take take away the advantages of a modern operating system that has been in place for years.  Notwithstanding some issues that some customers are still experiencing I don't think it is rocket science to fix a few niggling things like "copy/paste", "local printer access" or using one's default email application for emailing invoices, quotes etc.

Maybe someone from Reckon can explain just why such simple actions are now impossible and why they have been disabled.  It just doesn't make sense.

We have various ish-shues (channeling Kath & Kim here), but Copy & Paste is one of them and more of my colleagues are posting on that thread as we speak.  We are all different in how we use the software, just as the end users are, so some don't understand the dynamic (or lack there of) with the Copy & Paste function from an external source - BUT DON'T WORRY, SOME OF US GET IT & WILL BE APPLYING TO THE POWERS THAT BE TO REVIEW AND HOPEFULLY, RESOLVE!!

Thanks Kelly,

can I ask, even though it is almost unrelated, has there been any discussion about using one's default email client to send out emails, rather than use the RAHosted service.  99% of my cut and paste use is in transferring account addresses and email addresses to invoices etc to be emailed.  The cut and paste function is what it is for the moment,, but the email service is limited in that we have no way of knowing if an email has in fact been delivered.  No access to logs.

any update on the fixing of the issues surrounding copying and pasting? is it likely to be improved and made user friendly in the near future?

I don't think they have intention to fix it, as you can see no Technical people from their side explain and update the status.
They are just ignoring the problems.
They don't care how much we are suffering, they may think that we don't dare to move to other system as we have been using for so many year.
I can tell they are losing their customers and have very bad reputation.......
There are some good application which are user friendly, like Xero, Window Dynamic and MYOB...
It is time to think about to move to a better system, better services and better future.......

Same here. I've used quick books for 15+ years and lots of different versions. They have really stuffed up this major overhauls with the cut and paste, the tab key feature and not to mention how many buttons you have to press to print a report in draft mode. I've changed to google chrome and can see no difference in quickbooks performance than when I use it in safari at home. Both have same issue, except it's easier to print in draft mode in safari. I'm going to a xero introduction session next week as I'm seriously considering changing. I don't take this decision lightly, as I've tried myob and a few others before and know how difficult it is to get an old brain around a new program, but I'm that ticked off, that I'll probably do it this time. Why zero - because heaps of people are using it and love it.

Hi Guys, I've follow up on the copy and paste functionality. The function is natively available in Internet Explorer, our developers are still improvements for the other browsers groups. As soon as I know more, I'll let you all know. Cheers. Mirko.

Thank you Mirko!
BUT actually Reckon CANNOT work on Internet Explorer properly!!! Two week after the disaster "upgrade", I have called your Support line. (Actually couldn't get through your support line two week after the disaster). Your Support told me the same thing and I tried, but the screen was freeze several times....
I called again, your support then told me "Reckon CANNOT work on Internet Explorer properly".
What a joke and waste of time!!! Why don't they tell me before? Did they really try it before they give "professional" advise?????????
This make me more frustrated and hate this system and your service more!!!

Hi Ctse, I'd love too look into that for you. Please email me your customer ID and I would love to have that call reviewed. Immediately after the upgrade, users were reporting more issues with IE than any other browser. This is not to say that it was not working for everyone, some users found no issues at all. To say Hosted 'Cannot' work with IE is wrong. Thus I'd love to look into that call for training and coaching purposes. I apologise for your described experience. ^mirko

Hi Mirko, thank you for your reply. Your Support guys were very patient and their attitude were very positive and keen to solve the problems even they were receiving a huge amount of complaints. Apparently it wasn't their problem. I strongly believe those people need to be responsible to these problems are those management people:
1. who in charge of all these "Upgrade"  - they didn't research enough and understand the end users need.
2. Who in charge of fixing these problems after so many complaints - taking so long still cannot fix it and without any update/progress.
3.Who in charge of Support Dept. - at that time they didn't give enough information/training to the front line Staff to give accurate support to the customer.

And also those staffs working at the front line, they are very keen to performance their jobs to solve the problems which they didn't created.
Therefore, I don't think they are responsible for these problems and I will not provide any details about the phone call to put them in trouble.

I hope you can understand!

Hey CTSE, certainly understand your points, and I don't want to get anyone in trouble. Reviewing the call would allow to see what information was provided to the technicians.  As you say, being frontline staff, they are going off what they are told. I would love to see what was being provided and by whom to the frontline techs. Thank you for your feedback, and for your understanding of the role that the frontline staff play. It's not an easy job, and I'm pleased to hear that they are excreting a patient and positive attitude with you on the phone. I would expect this for all our users. Again, I leave you with an open invitation to email me, should you wish too. ^Mirko.

Hi Mirko, when I called the support guy told me, Google chrome had to be used. I asked about another problem and they gave me the same answer. So I asked, if I switch to google chrome, will that fix these issues, yes Google chrome is our preferred choice. So now you're saying that we should use Internet explorer ?
Photo of Mirko

Mirko, Alum

  • 34,812 Points 20k badge 2x thumb
Hey Donna, there is no preferred choice. Hosted can run on all browsers that support HTML5. As mentioned above, when the browser based version of Hosted was released it was noticed that Chrome was offering the best performance. That is not to say it always stays like that. The latest release of Chrome saw many users have issues as the visual processing in Chrome had changed and was not compatible with all graphics drivers (see Google support note). This change meant that Chrome users with certain graphics cards could not access sites that contained heavy visual reliance. Thus, at certain times with changes by Browser manufactures, that are out of our control, there could be issues. I’d personally recommended having at least 2 browsers installed on your machine, in case there are any such cases. Having more than one browser also allows for quick first step troubleshooting. Sometimes certain websites work better on another browser (for whatever reason, not being a IT guru myself, it makes no sense, but I’ve noticed it myself on multiple occasions with services like YouTube!). Happy to pass on your feedback to our developers.

All the so called advancements are not an improvement in any way after 12 years of using Reckon products we are getting our own program built .....sad that it has come to this after all this time but I can not and will not pay for a substandard program which has cost our company time & money and not to mention hours of frustration and still is. When you look at the old Accounts a working week was 26 to 30 hours NOW 43 to 45 hours how is this an improvement.
