Data File Rebuild not working.

The last few days when backing up our Quicken Accounts Premier 2013 data file the verification fails and we re-build the data. The data then verifies and backs up OK. The next day when we try to backup again the same problem occurs and we have to re-build the data file again. After the rebuild the backup works but we are having to re-build the file every day. How can we fix this major problem as it is very, very time consuming?

Hi John,
Thanks for your query. Have a look through your chart of accounts for an account called Sales Tax Payable (remember to include inactive accounts). If you find this account check to see if there are any transactions. If not delete the Sales Tax Payable account, rebuild your file, then to check if the problem is gone for good enter 1 transaction with tax, then verify the file again.
If you do have trasactions in Sales Tax Payable instead of deleting it make it a sub account of your main tax payable account, then rebuild the file, enter a transaction with tax then verify the file again.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Shane,
Thanks for your reply. We have done what you suggested to no avail. We have however noticed that the trial balance & balance sheet balance in accrual but not in cash basis and we use cash basis. Would this be the problem and if so how do we fix it?

Hi Shane,
Thanks for your reply. After checking the knowledge base article you mentioned we managed to correct the trial balance and balance sheet totals so that they balance in both accrual and cash basis. However, this dis not fix our data file problem and we still had to re-build the data file again when backing up.

Hi John,
Great news to hear your reports are working again. With your verify data problem, did you find and delete the Sales Tax Payable account? Did you rebuild the file after that? If not what happened exactly? If you did find and delete that account followed by rebuilding, and the problem is still there you may need some one to one help with Reckon technical support. They will be able to go more in depth on this issue over the phone.

Thanks for your reply Shane. We didn't find a sales tax payable account. But we have continually re-built the data file many times over the last few days. After the re-build it verifies OK and we do a backup. After that if we try to verify the data file we get a message saying that the file needs re-building. It is just going around in circles. I am about to give up. I downloaded Quickbooks File Doctor which tells us that there is nothing wrong with the data file.
Had we not just re-newed our Reckon Accounts Premier subscription last week I would give it away and start using MYOB even though we have used QuickBooks for over 12 years.

Based on your description of the problem it sounds like you have a Sales Tax Payable account, it may be hidden so try checking again, but make sure you include inactive accounts by ticking the box at the bottom of the chart of accounts that says Include Inactive. If you find it and its empty, delete it, rebuild the file, and the problem should be fixed. But if you still cant find it, a call to tech support should be able to solve the problem. This kind of problem does somtimes require one on one advanced phone support.

Hi Shane,
I found a GST Payable account which may have had a name change from sales tax payable. I tried to delete it but I get a message saying "This account is associated with Australian Tax Office Tax agency and can't be deleted."

Still no luck with re-building the data base. At backup it still has to re-build the data base every time.0

So I guess there is no more help from Reckon regarding this problem!0

Hi John,
What you need to do is verify the file, rebuild the file, verify it again, then get the log file called qbwin.log and contact technical support to get the log file reviewed. The log file contains sensative information that you should not post on public forums like the Reckon Community. You can find the log file in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Intuit\Quickbooks\log. Its called qbwin.log. If you do that they will be able to advise you what to do from there.
The only other thing I can suggest after this is to contact data recovery by filling out their web form at http://home.reckon.com.au/support/Home/ReckonSupport/ReckonDataServices.aspx. However I would wait and see what tech support say before contacting data recovery.
