Not sure why it wouldnt work - are you getting an error message when trying to save the changes?

It comes up with the message:
(Employees with payroll transactions can't be merged).

I agree with Linda, it should be easy to do.  There is no specific "edit" function, rather just change whatever needs to be changed and save and that is it.  Does your particular user profile perhaps not allow you to do this?

ok - so this is a different issue - you are trying to change the name to one that already exists?  Did you create a 2nd employee?  if so - the one with the least pays needs to have those pays deleted, that employee deleted and then fix the employee name on the one with lots of pays entered - then reenter the pays you deleted using the now corrected employee name... does that make sense?

or to be safe - change the name of the one with the least pays - to do not use... then go and add in those pays to the one you are going to keep - when you are confident you have all the pays for the one person in there - go and delete the one you are not using - then fix the name of the one of you are keeping...  the pay transactions that are reentered will need to be re-reconciled (unless you are using a suspense account, in which case it should be no problem)... but make sure the re-entered pays are EXACTLY the same as the ones you end up deleting...

Linda.  What sort of effect will all of these changes have in regards to all of the reports that have already been lodged through STP?

Linda this employee worked for us 8 years ago, original profile was in the correct name and was terminated in 2011. Employee inactive.
As she currently has only 5 pays processed this financial year your above suggestion my be the simplest solution.
However, as John has pointed out would you kindly advise how these changes may affect my STP submissions.
    Thank you.

That's ok.  Your subsequent response to Linda provides a totally different explanation of the problem and her response provides a way to cater for corrections.

Again, I think that perhaps you might be opening the door to another solution.  Why don't you try this as an option, because I believe that it will work as I have just tested it:
    1.  Go to he the terminated employee, and change the surname by adding (old) to it.  This will totally change the name to something other than it was.
    2.  Go to your current employee and change the spelling to what it should be.
My belief is that because the original record has had its surname changed, you should be able to change the incorrect name to the correct name, but it cannot say that there is already and employee there with the same name.

Ok  I was interrupted with my response and Linda has already come good with the same solution - well done Linda!
