EFT Deposit from Unknown Customer

Hi, I am reconciling the bank account and I have a couple of deposits that have been made but I do not know which customer made the payment. Previously I have just put this payment against a 'Mystery Customer' customer & a invoice that I created, then when & if the customer gets in touch then I move it from the Mystery to the customer in question.

If I just use Make Deposit to record it I still have to go back and apply it later to the correct customer.

I hope this makes sense. Currently we are using QuickBooks Premier: Retail Edition 2012-13
Cheers
Marney

For EFT transactions you should receive payments direct to your bank account not to undeposited funds. So you will not use Make Deposit for EFT's

When I receive these transactions I go "Make Deposit' and apply payment to an account I call "unallocated funds" which then sits in my cash draw and then do what you do, as it becomes known to me, I delete the deposit in the cash draw and apply it to the correct customer.  However, if you have already reconciled that transaction, you will need to remember to tick it again when you next reconcile as it will appear on your reconciliation list again.

Yer , sorry didn't get the OP meant originally.

You cannot just use 'Make Deposit' as it is not applied an invoice therefore leaving you with outstanding invoices balances. So you will need to delete the deposit and then use 'receive payments' to apply it correctly.

There is no need to create invoices, or 'mystery customer' for these transactions, simply create a sub account(unallocated deposits) to the bank account it was deposited to, so it is easy to find to delete, once you are able to 'receive payment'.

As Sylvia mentioned if it was reconciled remember tick it again.

EDIT: if you like create or use an income account like 'unallocted deposit income' or 'Uncategorised Income' to align the deposit to.
