Hi Team, for the last few days attempting to transfer items to pos results in an error at 5100 items.
Error comes up   ' frmQuickBooksImport:GetQuickBooksData 6 overflow '
QB Premier 11-12 and quickPos on win7 Pro networkedPC's.
This newly built Data file has been transferring and posting for 2 weeks and faulted after I removed 8 Duplicated items that I noticed arrived in the Administrator but in different categoies
Data file has 9700 odd items total.
Any help or tips would be hugely appreciated, retail and Christmas preparation mode continue to stretch this brain. lol.
Andy Tucker .  Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Reckon Community Andrew.

This can occur when you have 15 or more characters in a custom field of the an item in QuickBooks. The Custom Fields are limited to 14 Characters. You will need to check each the details of each items custom field information and reduce where necessary.

Hope this helps.

regards,
John

Thank you John. Surprise as I have about 2800 custom fields with between 15 to 30 characters in them. These are basically all in the default 'item prompt' custom field 5.
Surprise being I had the limitation at 31 characters as stated on a Quick Books summary. Is only 14 a safer limit?   Must they all be reduced as they had worked for the 2 previous weeks?
Can you tell I'm hoping to avoid the challenge but happy to go to it if it will solve the issue.

Thanks Andrew,

What other changes did you make when you removed the duplicates?  The problem may be in one or more, and other items, in QuickBooks.
Try exporting the Items list to IIF (and view in excel) and check for any very long text, or values that look ridiculously large.

You could restore a backup using a different file name, from when transferring to POS was working, then export the items list. Compare this list to the exported items from the current file.

BTW, the current version POS (2017), has an improved transfer process that now tells users which item has an issue.

Hope this helps.

regards,
John

Thank you John. I altered 7k of the 9.7k items with their associated custom fields over night and shazam! Transfers are back on the menu.  I copied the description field into custom field 5 to retain option of perhaps generating labels with the info. Although the transfers went thru for 2 weeks with the long characters this must have finally let go. Transfer issue solved.
I like the before and after transfer failure comparison of iif files. A great thing that has come from having to reduce the characters down to 14 allowed me to put a truncated version of all the item names ( 5 digits) without their catergory and subcatergory full names into custom field 5 instead, Allow sequential display of the 5 digit item codes giving us easily recognised missing codes. Big bonus for us to identify if products have previously been in the store. Thanks again John.
Cheers Andy
