Welcome to the Reckon Community Nenette,

To help you further can you say what messages  you are getting when the backup fails?
What location are you saving the backup to?
Have you changed anything with the Reckon Accounts programme since the last time you back up?

regards,
John

Hi

I have not made any changes on the program.  I am using Quickbooks premier retail edition 2012.
Quickbook can not back up your files is the message I get. when I click the OK button it exited the program.

I was backing up my file on the drive D of the computer.

Right now I am doing my bank reconciliation. After I was done and I click the reconcile button. it just hanged and message i get " Quickbooks not responding".

What can i do?  I am going overseas in a weeks time and I need to update before I go.

kind regards
Nenette Joaquin

Thanks Nenette,

Sounds like you have a corruption in your datafile that is preventing the backup process continuing, and is most likely also causing the behaviour around Reconciliation.

Please follow this sequence:
  1. Close Quickbooks
  2. In Windows Explorer  copy/paste your Company file (filename.qbw) to your backup directory
  3. Open your company file
  4. File > Utilities
  5. Hold down the keys Shift and Ctrl and continue holding down these keys - this will allow you to bypass the need for a backup that is required as part of the rebuild process
  6. Select Rebuild and select OK to the message Rebuilding without first backing up the company file.....
  7. Once the rebuild gets started you can let go of the Shift and Ctrl keys
  8. When the Rebuild Completes, click on File > Utilities > Verify to check whether there are any errors left in the file.  If there are, then Rebuild again, following steps 5, 6 and 7.
  9. Verify again.  If there are still errors then examine the QBWin.log file and follow up on errors still being found.
(A guide on the Rebuild process and examining the QBWin.log file is available here.)

Once errors in the file are fixed you should be able to do your Reconciliation and make backups.

John
