I accidentally deleted my .qbw files and it appears that there is no backup. I have recovered a lot of .qbw files (and various variations of that file extenstion) using file recovery software, and these are now on a USB drive. When I tried the "load existing company .qbw file" option using the most recent recovered .qbw file on the USB drive, I get "An error occurs when Reckon Accounts tried to create, open or use the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Reckon Tech Support and provide them with the following error codes: (-6150, -1006).

What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Martin,

    Welcome to the Reckon community.

Please try copying the file from USB to desktop and rename it. Then try to open it through File > Open or restore company > Open a company file option.

If you still get the error please get in touch with our Data Services team as there could be a possible corruption with the data file. Click Here to raise a data service request.

    Regards,

Martin.   A couple of articles have been written about this in the past,  and either the content of the troublesome FILE is internally corrupted/damagedd,.  or at a SLIM CHANCE, the file has been given the wrong file EXTENSION name during past copying operations.  IE:  A QBW file has been called a QBB or vice versa, and therefore the Reckon program is trying to read (open it to process it) with the wrong expectations.   Any attempt to try some of these ideas is best done in a new temporary folder on the main m'server' machine (if you are running multi-user)  so that you are dealing with just one computer and one known temporary file.  That way you eliminate a number of other networking, firewall, file sharing scenarios that make the process of finding out what's wrong, all the more complex.

Alas, if corrupted, you need to resort to some older BACKUP (xxx.qBB) files and use the RESTORE process on them.  Or if you had other copy/paste  WINDOWS EXPLORER 'copies'  of the QBW files from older days.    Sorry,  but that's why backups are needed and need to be tested from time to time for reliance upon.
