I am trying to restore a backup from Reckon Account Hosted 2013 (Premium) to the desktop Reckon Accounts Pro 2014 desktop version but it keeps failing

Welcome to the Reckon Community and thank you for your question.
Reckon Data files cannot be opened in lower spec version of the program. As Hosted is the Enterprise version, the data file can only be used on Hosted and Desktop Enterprise. You can always upgrade files, but you are unable to downgrade files due to feature compatibility.

Wenona, along with 3rd party tools, Reckon Data services offers a downgrade service, at a charge.
You can put in a request here: http://home.reckon.com.au/support/Home/ReckonSupport/ReckonDataServices.aspx The Data services team will assess the request, and advise you if possible and the charges involved.
