I have Account Premier 2015.  I paid the full fee to purchase and as such I own the program.  Why is it if I choose not to upgrade to latest version that Reckon will lock my data files to "read only" ?

I own this copy of the program so how do you believe that you still can control my business ?

Not happy Jan.

I would appreciate a reply as this is control gone made - It is my program to use as I wish not for you to have control over.

Await your response.

Hi, are you sure you paid for the full version or an annual subscription?
I have never had the files locked, I used to upgrade only every 3 years or so in the past and the files have never been locked.

Hi Andrew,

I think there might be some confusion around your licence, you have purchased Reckon Accounts Premier 2 user annual licence rather than an outright licence. This allows you to utilise the program for 12 months and includes the benefits of upgrades released in that time and access to live technical support.

If you would rather be on the full version model, as you are an existing customer you can purchase the upgrade which will allow you to use the program indefinitely.

Just a note regarding full versions, these are not perpetual licences, they are active for 3 years which at the cessation of the licence period, we are currently renewing.

Hope that helps, if you have any questions please let me know

Cheers
Rav

So you see, upgrades paid for not  Annual Licence fee is an illegal change

Why no comments? Was locked out of my account this morning on one of my computers. So don't tell me you have not made an illegal change to an account that was fully paid for  with optional upgrades. Now all of a sudden from paying for upgrades it is an annual licence fee with free upgrades. How unethical can a company become by greed.

Hi Els, I've outlined the case highlighted in this thread 9 months ago and also responded above to clarify any misconceptions around the Reckon Accounts Premier annual subscription. I'm not going to comment on any claims of illegalities of our subscription model. I'd recommend giving us a call directly so we can discuss your concerns around your specific subscription and the pricing structure.

Thanks
Rav

Whom do  I call?

Yes I did purchase the annual licence.  As such I see that this should provide me with program updates for a period of 12 months.  If I choose not to renew at the end of the 12 months then this should not stop me from being able to use the program - It should only stop me from receiving any updates to the program.  Basically by the way this operates I purchase the program but I will never own it.  This is becoming the way of the technological world now.

I feel that we are held over a barrel as we pay to purchase the item  - fair enough, But if I decide to not renew I still own the copy of program but cannot use it.  If I own it why carn't I use it ?????

A subscription allows you to use the program in the period of the licence. At the end of the 12 months the program is locked. As with all subscriptions (eg, including magazines). After the date closes you have a read only file.  Many other programs, not just accounting programs, will not even allow read only files after the end date.

If you wish to continue using the program beyond 12 months then you will need to buy the full version which will allow ongoing use after 12 months.

I think it should be clarified for you that you own the data file linked to the program file and then its up to you to decide if you want access to your own data file you must have a Reckon compatible program in order to read it.

Not correct. I paid for upgrades for the past 16 years. It has now changed to an annual licence. Without paying  or taking the upgrade the account was not locked to read only. THIS IS NEW, and probably not legal

I think the discussions on the changes to the programs going subscription only has left quite a bitter taste in everyone's mouth and seemed to draw battle lines on this forum. Not happy about this at all.
Not happy that Reckon have not replied to my email Rav suggested I send to him.
Happy to sign off forever now on this forum and the program. Adios!!

Yes, I'm Not happy TOO!.  There has been more help provide by the forum than ever from Reckon Tech support after they  glad fleece thier customers for the advantage program and  ( now the Annual License fee) for virtually minimal service provided.  I'm definitely not renewing my annual license, after I since discovered that my  advantage program has been changed to Annual license. Under hand  marketing!   Filling in complaints form with Consumer affairs now!  I want my  fee returned   for  the years 2016 and 2015.  They were taken under misleading information!

Last and final update for me. I received a call from Myron, Company Secretary at Reckon. He is concerned that I have problems and wants to know what they are and he says he has NOT received any emails from me. What concerns me is that they seem to know not much about this problem nor me, yet the email address Myron quoted me was not one of the 2 email addresses I have on file on this community, it is however the email address registered for the program. Brilliant attempt to coverup yet again. They have their AGM tomorrow, so how about everyone letting them know what you think as soon as possible.
