Inputting items that I sell

When I input items that I sell, should I put the price in that I get it for and then add a markup on the estimate, or should I put it in the system with the markup on it? 
I only ask because I am wondering if it messes with the profit and loss figures?

    Welcome to the Community Lee!

    If you enter a number there it will populate into your bill/make payment document but you can always change it at that point if you wish. If you are always buying the item at the same price, it's good idea to leave the inputted value in there so it remains constant, but if the cost to you is variable it may be better to just leave the field blank.
