Installing Reckon Accounts 2013 on Windows 8.1.

After my old computer died, I have been trying to install Reckon Accounts 2013 on a new Windows 8.1 computer.  Installation starts off OK, allows me to select "Region" , "Click to Start", then provides a "More Information" menu where I select "Install" and then the option to "Click here to install Reckon Accounts 2013" upon which everything comes to a halt.

I have tried disabling the anti-virus, but same result.

I contacted the Assistance phone number who suggested that I install the "Disk1" file from the HAB folder on my disk onto the desktop, and try installing from that, but that didn't work. I was also referred to the link http://www.quicken.com.au/kb/issue_view.asp?ID=4819 but that didn't work either.

    Hey Richard,

    Welcome to the Reckon Community.

If you are trying to run setup.exe in administrator mode and getting the above error, please try to run ISsetup.exe in administrator mode. This should allow the install on Win 8.1.

Let me know how you go and thank you for your patience.

    Cheers,

    Mirko

Thanks so, so much - I am now up and running.

I initially tried the ISsetup.exe file that I extracted from the HAB directory and placed on the Desktop, as suggested by the guy on the Assistance Line.  That seemed to load OK but at the end I got a message saying that "Your Program files may have been damaged ... you will have to reinstall the Program".  This happened a couple of times.

I then tried from the original installation disk and it worked like a charm!

    All the best

    Richard

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Unable to Install Account Personal 2013 on Windows 8.1. I downloaded the software ReckonAccounts 2013.exe, but when I run as Administrator,  I get a message 'This app can't run on your PC'. I tried some resolutions found in this community such as changing Compatibility setting and tuning on .Net Framework 3.5, none works. Could anybody give me an advice?

    Hi Mirko,

Thank you for the reply. Above thread is talking about setup.exe and ISsetup.exe, but the software download only includes one file 'ReckonAccounts 2013.exe'. What should I do with this?

Hi Yoshiko, please try to create a folder called RAP on desktop. Double click on Reckon accounts 2013.exe and on the left, where it says the location of the extracted folder, browse to the folder in desktop and untick “run ./setup” and click Unzip. When process is completed, go to Desktop > RAP > now you’ll see all installation files from the DVD and go to HAB > Disk 1 > and ISSetup file will be there.

As soon as I double click on ReckonAccounts 2013.exe file, I get a message 'This app can't run on your PC', so there is nothing I can do. As I said earlier, I have tried changing compatibility and .Net framework settings.

Sounds like the drive this .exe is trying to run on or save on a drive that does not have a Windows installation? Are you trying to install on a server or on your local disk?

I've just bought a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 8.1, as well as Reckon Personal. I am trying to install on the local C drive. I have installed some other software with no problem.

Hey Yoshiko, it sounds like there is some sort of corruption. I spoke with our Technical Support team and they advised that it may help to try the steps here: http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/fix-programs

    Hi Marko

None of the download links here works. (file is no longer available)

It is strange as I can run other exe files. The icon looks like Zip file. Is it what it is supposed to be?

I think I will download the file once again. Is it possible to down load the software many times as long as I use my IKC?

It is a compressed file, so you can try to extract it (by right clicking). The zip/exe itself could be corrupt so deleting and re-downlioading could do the trick. You can download as many times as you like, so long as you use same IKC. Thanks.

    Hi Mirko,

I downloaded the software again. This time it worked and I successfully installed it! Thank you for your support.

Great to hear Yoshiko, re-downloading would have been one of my first suggestions, but I thought the file came preloaded with the laptop, apologies for my misunderstanding!

    Hi

I've had a similar problem to this on Windows 8.1 but with the Reckon Accounts 2014 R1.exe.  I have downloaded it several times all with the same result.  I have used a zip tool to unzip it manually, but when I do I get an error message saying the _winzip_ file is corrupt.  As a result I can't update my existing 2013 application, or apply the new tax tables which appear only to be available for Reckon Accounts 2014, not for 2013.

Hey Paul, have you tried downloading the trail version of 2014 from our website? (disregard the trial IKC you are given, and use the one you have purchased). All the trials are the same, it's only after inputting your IKC will the software become specialised to your particular version.

    Hi Yoshiko,

If you are in Australia then go to...
    http://home.reckon.com.au/support/Home/Downloads/TrialDownloads.aspx

If you  are in New Zealand then go to...
    http://www.reckon.co.nz/software/index.asp

on both sites choose the product you want and download....

If you are an existing Reckon Accounts/QuickBooks customer you might want to get in touch with Reckon as they can give you an upgrade price.

Or you can go through a Reckon Accredited Consultant and they can help you make sure that the product is installed correctly and set up your company files for you.

Thanks for the suggestion of downloading the trial version, however which download should I be using?  My licence is for Reckon Accounts 2014 but I don't see a link for Reckon Accounts.

    Hi Paul,
do you still have the icon for your 2013 program? try clicking once on it and it will tell you which version you have.....

There is Reckon Accounts Business Range & Reckon Accounts Home & Business range. Sometimes they can be abbreviated to RA or just Accounts.
Reckon Accounts Business Range comes in several versions each year.... ie easy start, accounting, plus, pro, premier, enterprise etc...

From what I understand you will not be able to install the latest tax rates to the 2013 version.... you will need to have the latest Reckon Accounts (plus, pro, premier etc)2014 ....

    Hope this helps

    Hi Angie

Thanks, I was able to download the Premier edition which is the one I'm using.  Unfortunately that took me to exactly the same download as the emails you originally sent me for the upgrade.  Once again the file downloaded was corrupted, when I execute the self-extracting archive exe I get the following message (screen shot uploaded).  This is the same error I got from the previous 4 downloads.  I don't have issues downloading anything from anywhere else, and I'm a software developer so I tend to download a fair bit of software.  Could you please send me a copy of the Premier edition on disk like you have in previous years?

    Thanks

PS - I can't see the screenshot file I uploaded, not sure if it worked, the error message is:

ZIP damaged: file C:\TEMP\Reckon Accounts Timer\instmsia.exe:

Bad CRC 6fd2b88e (should be 3ccaccf9).

    Possible cause: file transfer error.
