Hi everyone,

For those of you who don't know me yet, my name is Tami and I'm Reckons Online Community Manager!

I thought it would be a great community building exercise for us to introduce ourselves to each other to help break the ice and get to know each other on a slightly more personal level.

If you would like to introduce yourself, feel free to post a reply!

Some information you could include to get you started:

  • Your name
  • Your company
  • Favorite business tip
  • Favorite hobby

I look forward to reading each of your posts!

Hey guys,

My name is Jim and I run the Program Office for Reckon IT.

As you can appreciate we are going through an unprecedented period of change in the company, which brings with it phenomenal opportunity and exciting possibilities!!  In IT alone we are running 56 concurrent projects, with ReckonOne just 1 of these.

Favorite business tip ?? Well business is based on people so I have always believed the best business tip is to engage, empower, enlighten and encourage your people !

Favorite hobby.. well anything to do with technology of course .. I have worked in IT for 36 years (stop laughing !! .. yes I am as old as your father) .. since the days of the dinosaur Mainframe .. before the advent of desktop computing .. there is very little in technology I haven't worked on or with.

I look forward to Community immersion !

Hello world!

My name is Jason and I am currently a Systems Consultant at Cutcher & Neale - a BRW top 50 accounting firm in Newcastle and North Sydney.

My IT background started at Coles Myer where I tinkered with anything available (Windows 3.1 and DOS at the time), then a Business Degree at Monash where I majored in DBMS (Oracle v6 I believe was our SQL tool - boy I wished I kept going down that path!), and into family businesses that used QuickBooks (now Reckon Accounts Business).

So what is a Systems Consultant anyway?? In a few words I give expert advice on a businesses current or future technology requirements. Whether this be entry level accounting products like Reckon Accounts, or completely customisable ERP solutions like Ostendo, I will process map their business, identify technology voids or efficiency gaps and provide a solution (or multiple solutions) - and not necessarily one we support.

It's all about providing a solution, not the tools. However, if we can use one of the 10 software providers we currently support, then even better.

Biz Tip: Hmmm.... that is tough. There are so many depending on the situation. I would say hire well (as in good people) and automate as much as you can (with a great system). Oh, and have fun (your customers can tell when you love what you do)... is that 3 tips already??

Where I live: I assume you don't want GPS co-ordinates Tami?? If you do - here you go - this is where I live.

We have recently moved from Lake Macquarie to Newcastle City - I miss living on the lake, but with a commute of 5 mins down from 55 mins, a short walk to the beaches, cafe's, my wife's work and dare I say it... my mother-in-laws - it's all going pretty well.

Fav hobbie: Sailboarding since I was 12 so that is still high on the list, although I don't sail 5 days a week like I once did :(

Playing guitar and singing - although that is more like a job now than fun - and reading database or coding text books - and red wine, preferably while reading a database text book!

Like Jim, I too am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and love of all things database (and business) related!!

You'll possibly have to update your software Sally as Windows 7 compatibility issues exist. There are some workarounds. Please start a new thread on the forum and you will get the required responses (it will be buried in this thread).
