JobKeeper Payment

I have to say I am very disappointed with the speed Reckon getting on top of this.  I have seen MYOB and Xero other accounting programs have published the way of recording JobKeeper Payment, but with Reckon, all we can do is waiting for more details.  Today ATO has opened up the enrolment for eligible employees and I need to process payrolls today to reflect this payment but I don't have guidance to do it in order to avoid of troubles to lodge STP then get refund back.

    Why?
I'd rather wait for accurate information rather than jumping the gun like everyone else seems to be doing right now.
From all accounts this far more complicated that everyone thought it would be. Would you rather try some method being advertised that is likely to change after the ATO have actually finalised all the requirements?

    Why ?
yes, there will be lots of changes and new learning coming into this, similar to Introduction of GST and STP,  we will advice to our best of ability on whats available now and get the business going in the right track. Right  now even ATO staffs are not fully sure on this.

I agree with you Emma, I have a payroll today and as per usual Reckon is way behind compared with all other programs.  I really think it is time I finally do the switch to Xero

    HI Natasha

I too have been concerned as I need to process payroll for jobkeeper by Wednesday. I went to the ATO website and locate dthis information:

Through the Business Portal – 200 employees or less

If you use STP enabled payroll software that does not offer JobKeeper functionality, and you have 200 employees or less:

    • Log into the Business Portal from 4 May 2020.
    • If you are a partnership, trust or company, you can register the details of the eligible business participant and provide a start period.
    • Identify eligible employees for each JobKeeper fortnight
      • Select eligible employees from a list of employees prefilled from your STP pay reports.
      • Add up to 40 employees that are potentially eligible but not prefilled, if required.
If Reckon do not have this sorted out by Wednesday I will have to wait until 4 May to submit the information, which will also no doubt mean a delay in payment.

In the event that this occurs I will certainly be looking to change providers.

HI Emma and Karen my understanding is that you shouldn't have to alter the pays you have done prior to being able to pay the job keeper payment if you haven't made payment to your staff during the month you have until the 28th of April to have made the full months payment to your staff, so in your last pay run you would top up the staff wages the difference of what they have been paid to what they should be paid for the job keeper as a lump sum amount, the problem with this and doing so through the month is the fact that the super component needs to be changed by reckon so that businesses are not paying undue super when we don't have the funds to do so, as you are only required to pay super on their normal wages, not the job keeper payment unless you want to but if you are down in your funds for your business you certainly wouldn't opt to pay additional super.

Today is our last pay for the month and as our business is still open all be it with lower turnover the fact that our accounting program isn't ready to go is an issue.  I need to make sure I am doing the right thing.  I will pay the pays today but will not lodge the STP file until Reckon are ready and hope for the best!  Our pay periods don't run inline with the ATO jobkeeper ones unfortunately.

I'm just about to look at it now.  I'm very nervous about doing it correctly!  everything is so rushed, I guess its just unfortunate that our pay day is today of all days!

That's why you can't jump the gun.  You have to Enrol your business first before you can process your payroll, this is not only with Reckon it is with MYOB too.
It is not only the payment and allowance that needs tracking it is also your reimbursement from the ATO, because it is not an income.
I am new to the game too and I am struggling to understand so it is frustrating but we are all in the same boat.
    Good luck everyone. Joanne

i agree. I appreciate its a difficult time but other software providers have been able to get this set up why is it taking so long for Reckon. I have been with Reckon for years but sorry to say i think it is time for a change.

Hi Erin, I set up a payroll item called jobkeeper top up and didn't attach super to it.  That way super was calculated on the hours worked and not the top up.  I have yet to lodge STP as from I'm reading from other software programs, Reckon will need to put something in place for us to do this correctly

I only have the free app which I just enter the amounts for Gross, tax, super then submit to ATO. Would job keeper payments just be recorded the same? Or will a new field become available for job keeper? I really want to make my payments to staff now

Hi Erin, when you set up this JOBKEEPER TOPUP payroll item, it comes to the last page (I am using Reckon Accounts Premier) asking "Select All" or None for super.  Choose None or untick every item. That's my way.  Hope it helps.
