What about if you just use the Reckon app to enter payroll amounts to submit To ATO

I did a 3k payrun for jobkeeper
Then thinking that was incorrect I did 2 x 1.5 k
Payruns (putting most of the pay in allowance
As I thought that was how I had to report jobkeeper
But now the ato said the first one was right
But the second two have been accepted by the ato now
And it looks like I paid 3 k extra though the allowances don’t show in the gross
Point is there all made the same paydate all 3 of them
And only the one larger pay is correct so I need to delete the other 2 but ato and quicken don’t seem to be able to help me

It does not matter whether you use allowance or gross pay, they are treated the same tax wise. The employee myGov income statement would show allowance. Use a negative adjustment to take out the 2 x 1.5k pay runs.

Yes looks like we all have the same issue, hopefully Reckon will update its software as the ATO dead-line for payments is the 28/4

Hi Rav,

The guide re how to process of payrun on Reckon STP Mobile App indicates "nil Tax Withheld", is this correct way to do?

So if I’m just paying the flat $1500, no extra I just enter this amount in the app as gross wages then the tax amount?

Thanks Rav,

My question is , the official document says that if the pay is under $1500 then only the "top up" amount should be included in the allowances field. However what if the employee is normally paid an allowance (for eg 150$)  in his payrun and also needs a Top up  to meet the $1500...for eg $600. Do include both allowances .... $150 + $600 = $750  in this case in the "ALLOWANCE FIELD" Will this cause confusion on the ATO side??

I think it means we will have to manually go into mygovID and manually update the report as Reckon does not have the functionality (and assume not planning to update their software) to report the JKP allowance as do other STP providers !

Hi Rav, can you clarify that your team are not planning to update Reckon STP Mobile App to include the JobKeeper functionality ? I need an answer because it’s unclear as a lot of people in this community are still unclear at this stage. Your JKP guide does not say anything about your going to update for the Mobile App version. Am I right ?
May I know the other versions’ price for Reckon ?
Thanks TK

Hi Rav, if I already submitted the payroll report for week 30 Apr to 11 Apr but didn't put the top up in the allowances in the app, can I submit revised reports for those two weeks in your app?

Hi Rev, the example in the guide doesn't have tax withheld amount. We usually hold tax from gross payment so please explain how this will work. e.g. If the usual forthrightly pay is $900, then a $600 'Top Up' is needed to reach $1500 before tax. The total tax withheld is $192 (with tax-free threshold), so the employee will actually receive $1308 after tax. In the STP, will this be what I need to enter: Gross Pay - $900, tax withheld - $192, Allowance - $600?  Can you please check with your team that this is the case or something different? Many thanks Anthony

I ended up just making the Gross Pay 1500 and tax withheld $192. I tried using Allowance for the Job Keep top up but then the Gross amount didn't show 1500. This free app doesn't have Job Keeper as a specific allowance.

Yeh same. And you were paid ok for the JK from the ATO by doing it this way? I was told that the allowance & the gross get plussed together and that how you get the $1500. Who knows

  • 170 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
Yep we got the payment straight away. I think to only downside by doing it this way is that ATO can't see directly what's normal wages which we pay SG super, and what's the top up part which we don't pay extra super. But I've got records on my accounting system anyway if they want to check.

The $1500 is before tax therefore tax withheld should be calculated on the whole of $1500. Allowance is part of taxable income. In case of casuals there might not a regular fortnightly pay.

I have been paying our casuals weekly and reporting via STP each Friday as per usual.  We were uncertain as to the details of the JobKeeper payment so did not want to commit before we saw the fineprint from the ATO.  I will now need to backpay them from 30 March to 24 April.  Am I able to run a report for lodgement which covers the entire periods or do I need to amend each earlier report?

All the app needs is the ability to NAME an allowance rather than just a single dollar amount. That would allow identifying employees and also the topup if required

Excuse my ignorance , perhaps I have missed something ? The fundamental issue is that the Reckon STP does not have the functionality to report payments made under the Job Keeper payment and as such the ATO will not be reimbursing  the Job keeper payments made under the "allowance" field in the app. I think our only option is to go back to the MygovID and update the payments manually in that portal?

The STP app uses the alternate method of reporting where the STP reports go in but the employees eligible will be identified by yourself during the claims process in the ATO business portal.

This is why the documentation does not cover off START-FNXX etc. It is a different process for STP app users.

Hi Rav, can I please clarify that all I need to do to report our JobKeeper  payment is to record the amount in the allowance section on the Reckon App and submit it?  Do I need to do anything else or report the JobKeeper Payment anywhere else?  I am a bit confused by some of the questions and answers here.  Thank you.

Hi Rav,
confusion reigns with how to use the allowance for JobKeeper. Can you please clarify if my staff have not been paid at all, I would need to run the payroll from 30/-12/4 and 13/4 - 26/4 and pay them $1308 in allowances allowing for tax. Screen shot of examples would be great.

I am no expert, but did considerable reading / research for our own purposes. We did a payslip short of the $1,500. So then after that we created a NEW ADJUSTMENT (found in the blue plus sign where you find NEW PAY RUN as well). For the adjustment, you only have to enter amounts that have not already been entered. It should have the ALLOWANCE amount which is $1,500 minus previous gross pay for the period. It should also have a new PAYG amount. When the gross increases to $1500, the PAYG should increase too - in the payslip. I deleted old payslip and did a whole new one, though I suppose one can do a second one for the period with only the top-up and PAYG. The new payg is higher, so for the NEW ADJUSTMENT, that is new payg - payg already entered for the period. Hope that makes sense. One then apparently needs to go on Business Portal to assign employees to JobKeeper and sort out the codes. I don't think this is available yet. A bit scary since we have paid according to all this, but not sure that it will be in time / approved. What then?

On the BP the ATO says: A business that doesn’t have STP enabled payroll software, and has less than 40 employees: From 4 May, Manually enter the tax file number and date of birth of each eligible employee online

I submitted payroll for 12/4/20 and 26/4/20 showing gross wages and tax totalling  $1500.00.
I now know this should have been submitted as Allowance and tax totalling $1500.

How can I correct it?   I can't see any function to show a negative amount in gross wages in order to show a positive value in Allowance.

I put a minus sign, a dash (not underscore) in front of the adjustment number.

Hi Imelda, I think it depends on what phone you are using. I found this online:
https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-type-a-minus-sign-on-my-phone-keyboard

I personally have an LG phone, but I have SwiftKey app installed for any typing. On swiftKey it is in the numbers section left of the brackets. Once you've used SwiftKey you'll want to keep it on your phone. It makes typing so much easier. Good luck.

Hi Joseph, I don't think so... if you look at the screen clip with the numbers on this page:
https://help.reckon.com/article/gys2pvczfy?_ga=2.161796796.1478666447.1587962755-1337755325.1587293946
The gross and allowances together add up to 1,500
