MS Office 2019 is about to be released (early October). Has Reckon done any compatibility testing, especially with Outlook on Reckon desktop products ?

Steve, Reckon are still trying to get their products to work with Outlook 2007-2016. Asking a bit much to get them to start on 2019. At current rate 2019 compatibility will be working by 2030.....

Yes that's what I expect. Reckon's response will be something like....

Reckon 2018 (and earlier) products will not be patched.
Reckon 2019 desktop products will be compatible.
Customers will need to purchase the 2019 product.

That's an answer I would be happy with. Enterprise 2018 with current office 365 and I am still using workarounds after 4 years. I pray they say 2019 will be 100% compatible with 2019. At least then I can forego all the vulnerabilities created with workarounds. Fingers crossed.... if my patience doesn't get the better of me by then that is.

Testing is currently in progress for the 2019 Reckon Accounts Business edition.

Office 2019 (32bit) is compatible with Reckon Accounts Personal 2019.

So basically as expected. RA2018 is not being patched.
Would be nice if Reckon at least developed a free patch/update for RA2017 and later

    Yes i'm dreaming...

    Kevin,

Should we seriously expect Reckon Accounts or RPP to have update patches ?

Unfortunately other products do provide this type of service, so Steve should be excused for his mistake.

    Developers may be interested ..........

This week has been a HUGE week for Microsoft updates:
Windows and MS Office both had major updates

Windows 10 updated to version 1809

I have MS Office 365 Pro Plus (which includes installed desktop products)

    Both updates happened automatically

    So now I have:

    Windows 10 Pro version 1809 (64-bit) (OS Build 17763.1)
MS Office (32-bit) updated to version 2019 (Build 10827.20138)

And Reckon Accounts Premier 2018 (Release R2P) with Outlook 2019 ?

Working fine. All good, no issues ! Yay !!

Office 2019 (64-bit) will be supported from the 2019 Reckon Accounts Business range only pending results of QA.

Now that RA2019 is released, I have done the following:

    Remove RA2018
    Remove MS Office 32-bit
    Reboot

Install MS Office 64-bit, configure email accounts etc
Check Outlook is default email app (yes it is)
    Install RA2019
Update all company files to RA2019, no problems

    BUT.....
Email issues as per these articles, and the fixes/workarounds did not work
    http://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=1845
    http://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4062

    Removed MS Office 64-bit
    Installed MS Office 32-bit
    All OK no issues

    In summary
RA2019 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MS OFFICE 64-BIT

Too time consuming to remove/reinstall MS Office
    Try this, try that etc
I'm not going to waste any more time on this

And NO ! I will not move to the cloud !

Developers, please move with the times
Make RA desktop products compatible with MS Office 64-bit

    Agreed Kevin

Windows has been 64-bit by default since Win-7 was released (circa 2008)
MS Office 64-bit has been available since version 2010, maybe earlier

And again, another new Reckon product, no new features
Just updates to Payroll, which had to be done
I don't use Payroll, so nothing for me

Definitely time for Reckon to move on
For what we pay for Reckon product, there should be $$$ available for software development and improvement

*** Gets down off soapbox ***

Steve ,? I could not agree with you more.

?I have had enough of the workarounds. What has pissed me off even more is the lack of response and care shown by supposed moderators on this site. John and Rav asked for information last year and did not even have the courtesy to respond to my multiple requests on this site for updates. If my customer service was this bad I would certainly have no customers left.

I have not installed 2018 nor will I be installing 2019. I don't have the patience to uninstall office or Reckon Accounts Enterprise from 10 pc's each and every time to see if things work or not. None of the yearly updates are actually improvements. All they do is tweak a bit here or there, none of which has fixed ongoing issues.

We are currently now in the testing phase of MYOB to see if I we come up with any problems and as of 01 July we will migrate across finally after being with Reckon since Quickbooks v2.0 which off memory is about 18-20 years. MYOB may or may not be better but I am sick of the vulnerability and time wasting caused by the same ongoing issue for years......

While I agree, with both of you's. Reckon would need to have and 64bit Version & a 32bit Version of the software. As 32bit version of Reckon would not work with 64bit Version of Outlook and vice versa.

To do that, it would be a major rewrite to the software. This will not happen, as they cant even get the installer to auto remove previous versions (which is a prerequisite of the install), which is the most simplest task to do with the installer.

Microsoft supply 32bit version of Office for one simple reason 'To Support Legacy Software' (Reckon Accounts XXXX) based off Quickbooks 2007 (i think) is with no doubt legacy software.

Microsoft Outlook Messaging API (MAPI32) should be removed from RA all together, the reliance of MAPI32 to get the software to function completely is ridiculous and simply a poor development choice(inherited).
