New employee does not appear when I go to do an unscheduled pay run

This seems like a really stupid question, I have been setting up and paying employees since July 2019 but now setting up a new employee, a casual Shearer, he doesnt appear in the drop down list of names when I go to do an unscheduled pay run.  His setup as an employee appears the same as all the others but must be something simple that I am missing.

    Hi Anne

    Go into his employee file and check his start date.  It should be dated before the date of the payroll.
