I am trying to edit a payroll item (child support deduction) and the new amount is not carrying over into processing as a default amount. How should i be doing this? I am on Reckon Accounts Premier and not using Single Touch Payroll. thanks in advance.

Hi Wendy

Just a guess...

Go into the payroill item you have set up for Child Support.  The 5th screen looks like this:

I suspect you have the top option selected - so when you run a payroll, it is looking for a number.  Although you could put a 1 in every pay, this option is more suitable where the number varies.

If you select either as per above, it should work

You may have to delete the item from the pay and then add it back in again. If that doesn’t,t work, try putting a 1 in the qty column

Thanks Graham, I've tried deleting and adding back, I can't access the Qty column. The item comes up under 'Other Payroll Items' and only allows me to change the 'rate' manually each fortnight. It's a previous amount that is coming up as a default. I used to change it regularly but it's only recently that the default hasn't changed and i don't know what I've done differently or what has changed. Normally i just edit the amount in the payroll items list and next time I process payroll the new default figure appears.
I appreciate your replies though.
