We have decided that reckon payroll is too clunky and is not up to date with NZ legislation which means we are having to do a lot of holiday calculations manually. (Not ideal)

The reason we moved to the payroll function inside of reckon was to have accurate job costing reports that would include labor.

So my question to everyone is can you suggest any payroll software that allows for job costing that I will be able to get accurate reporting out of each week to journal into/ upload into Reckon Desktop.

Hi Monique.  You are the first person from NZ that I have seen post about using Reckon for payroll.  I have been very curious how others from NZ have found it.  Based on the numerous queries I see posted in the community about OZ payroll issues has made me steer well clear of it.

We use ACE Payroll (it was being used when I started in Oct 19).  I enter employee timesheets in RAH to account for job costing.  Then I transfer the hours worked to ACE for payroll.   I am sure there is a better way, but I too, am not trusting enough of RAH to move payroll.

    Hi Monique,
Which aspects of NZ legislation do you feel the payroll functions in Reckon Accounts are not up to date with?

The Holidays Act. We have contacted Reckon directly about this whom have bluntly told us, no its not which we wish we knew before the transition.

Other payroll systems i have used in the past have been fairly robust, however we find Reckon payroll too clunky, it is very easy to make a mistake in this system and does not comply to NZ holiday legislation. :(

    Hi Sheryl,

Stear clear of Reckon payroll, i believe the payroll may be different for other versions of Reckon, however Reckon themselves have told me that in Reckon Desktop it does not comply to the NZ Holiday legislation's which we wish we knew before we transitioned in May. You can only imagine the reports and the updates to manual excel sheets we are currently going through to get our averages correct for when paying out leave.

This is not a system i would suggest to anyone in NZ.

I do love Ace payroll, it is what we were using before we transitioned over to Reckon payroll. It was a great user friendly system. Unfortunately we are looking for a payroll system that will also job cost and spit out a journal that we can enter into reckon without an additional add on to that. But thanks for the info i will add it to my proposal as a maybe haha.

    Hi Monique,
Can you be more specific in regard to which elements of the Holidays Act. What tasks/activities are you performing in Reckon which aren't working for you.

Specifically the average hours. exapmple our team does not work regular 40 hour weeks they work different hours each week so when paying out leave we need to manually work out their average hours to ensure they are paid correctly for holidays as Reckon payroll does not do this.

I have exactly the same problem! It's great if staff work only a set amount of hours every week but when they move between say 30 - 60 hours and standard and overtime rates it's not helpful. All I was told was to use the Holiday-AWP option when I need to pay them leave but that doesn't help with an hourly accrual staff can know how much leave they have owing or paying out leave on a final pay.
