Why Amelia,?

Why not use Reckon POS.  I love it.  Works well.

Haha good one Wilma. I love it too but it looks a bit dated now. We need something that will integrate with our online stores.

It doesn't integrate with my online store and integration isn't readily available. So I just wondered whether there was anything else that already integrated with Reckon that might also integrate with my website.

No. No there is not. Many years ago there was a an online version of Pos but it was not too easy to use so it was dropped.

They now have a version on POS online but does not integrate with Reckon Hosted.  Does anyone know what pos system will work with Reckon Hosted.

Hi Bev. Reckon Cloud POS does indeed integrate with Reckon Accounts Hosted as well as Reckon One.

Kind regards,
Jason

Hi Bev,
There's some info in the video below on integrating Reckon Cloud POS with Reckon Accounts Hosted.

If you have any specific questions or need more info on Reckon Cloud POS, can you please create a new thread for it and we'll be more than happy to help.

Basically have a look here http://go.reckon.com/add-on-marketpla...

This is most of the software that 'works' with Reckon Accounts. Its thin pickings for what you want to do.

Might be to time to step back and review the entire accounting product suite that is used and change to one that works the way you want to work.

Andrew. So nothing then.

Yep, as I said... thin pickings. There are a couple of web store products that will plug in to RA, but nothing major and nothing that can do both POS and ecommerce (not that you normally use the same for both, but Amelia did ask for that)

Will most Hardware options work with Reckon POS or do I have to use the tested items from the list?

yes and no.... You need to use items on the hardware list see

http://pos.reckon.com.au/ReckonPOS/Bu...

Some items like printer as long as they have a compatible mode to something on the HCL will work. Barcode scanners are bit more flexible as well, as long as they can be programmed to send a ~ before the barcode and a CR after it.

If you buy anything make sure you can take it back is my advice. Better still, stick to the list. Receipt printers are usually okay and touch screens but keybaords and such as can be pretty tricky.

Well that's a bit frustrating and a lot of those brands aren't readily available in NZ that I can find.

Everything. Was going to just get a PC for the shop, cash drawer, scanner and receipt printer - I just assumed that anything would suit. I didn't quite appreciate that there were certain brands/models that I would have to get.

Kevin - can I not use a standard QWERTY keyboard? The ones on the list are odd.

You can use a standard keyboard Amelia. The ones Kevin was talking about are special 'POS' keyboards like this one picked at random from the internet http://www.access-is.com/images/akc11...

As for ordering hardware, the cash drawers are pretty standard. Look at the posiflex brand. Pretty cheap and very common and easy to find.

Barcode scanner is more flexible to brand. I myself like the symbol Omni-Directional units as they work really well for scanning. But if not scanning lots of items, a trigger unit is also fine.

Printers, the epson units work well.

With some of this stuff, its better to pay a little 'more' up front and get good gear that you can get parts for and won't break down on you.

Amelia you most certainlyy can use a standard keyboard. Receipt printers are pretty cruisy too Cash drawers should be okay.

Thank you guys! And just a PC is fine, I don't need a POS terminal or anything like that? Touchscreen?

Nobody "needs" a touchscreen its just that in some environments it works quite well e.g. hospitality. The interesting thing is since I started using POS in 2000 the price of the touch screens has come crashing down. The first one I saw was a demo it was $5000.00. Today they are under $500.00

Any modem PC is fine, and touchscreen will depend on your business etc. But yes they can be very handy to have. Some of the all in one units will work well if your counter works with them.

That said, Reckon POS is a little behind in SOME areas for touch interfaces, so don't throw that keyboard away.

Also think long and hard about which version of POS you buy. Most users could get away with Lite, the pro version costs more and the features it adds, you may not be of use to you.

http://pos.reckon.com.au/ReckonPOS/Pr... then click on POS range comparison

I see prices have gone up again, in AUS, its $385 a YEAR for the POS lite and $765 for the Pro.

Basically, if you don't need table manager, Appointment manager, kitchen printing, promotions and multi layer touch screens, then save your money.

You have to see if any of those features are worth $380 EXTRA each and every year. For us, it wasn't. The promotions is horrid to use, the only thing we would like is layered touchscreens, but at $380 a year, we'll live without it.

It's just the reward programme I need from the Pro version but have been umming and ahhing about whether it is worth it.

I could probably come up with a manual way of doing it and save myself some money.

Have you had a play with the trial to see if the rewards program will do what you want it to do?

@ $380 per terminal per year, its a big cost just for a rewards program, if you have two or three terminals, it'll cost you $1k/yr plus the reward discounts!

If you don't mind me asking, what line of business?

No I haven't played with the trial. It's a retail store.

Give the trial a go.

You can easily move from POS Lite -> Pro as an 'upgrade', but moving from POS Pro -> Lite requires starting a brand new POS database and setting everything up again. Bit of a PIA, so best to start on the right version ;)

Good thinking! I have applied for the trial and will see how it goes. If I can get away with the Lite version I'd much prefer it.

Thank you so much for your help!
You and Kevin have been very very helpful, I really appreciate it :)

Thanks Kevin. Wish Reckon was more easily integrated into other products. Might have to move to Xero and Vend in the future if Reckon doesn't catch up.
