Hi Jay, thanks for your post and welcome to the Reckon Community.

As per my understanding you are unable to open the company file due to the message that file has been open in a newer version.

Please let me know if you have uninstalled/reinstalled/repaired the QuickBooks Pro 7.4.

Also, if you have a backup of the same file then try to restore it.

    Regards,
    Shakir

The business is a small one person business, and moved about 18months ago, from a retail environment to homebased. the original disk and box has been misplaced. So not able to reinstall it. Opened the about and it had the registration details etc not sure if that will help or be useful. So haven't been ale to try and reinstall the product. What can you advise as the business is going to be wrapping up in the next few months for retirement. Also tried to restore from a backup and also got the same error message..

    Cheers
    Jay

Please provide your telephone number/email address so that we can try to get some information regarding your account and product.

Also, it seems that file has been updated to the newer version as this is the only scenario when we get this message.

    Regards,
    Shakir

Ok email is jay@jay2you.com. phone +61894689702. I am inquiring on behalf of someone. They had a computer guy come in and "fix" their computer and they told me that they couldnt find their cd and so the person installed an old version from diskettes. The person is retiring and not cmputer literate (in 60's) and says he only needs to consolidate and organise the last lot of data for his books before he closes off. He says the last verrsion he bought end of 2012. All he can find is the cd sleeve but not the cd. If there is no way to get it working without the cd. Is there a demo version that can be downloaded so he can consolidate and do final entries?

    Cheers
    Jay

    Hi Jay,

    Thank you for your reply.

As you have mentioned above that old version Reckon software has been installed by the Technician. In this case we would request you to please call our Customer Service number 1800 732 566 with Customer details so that we can check the account for latest software version details and help you accordingly.

    Regards,

Contacted support and they sent me a link to download and install quickbooks 8.1. looked in registry and found that the previous installed versions were 7 and 8.1 .  When I try and run setup.exe nothing happens. Tried downloading onto another computer and the same happens. Can you advise how to get it running (and yes have tried comparability mode, and the computer installing on is windows xp, and also tried on windows 8 to see if the installer was working).

    Cheers
    Jay

    •  Move the Installation files in a folder on the Desktop.
    •  Run the Setup File
    • Try installing by changing the compatibility mode to Win XP SP.
    • Safe and Selective Start up mode

I am actually installing the product in windows xp. And the installer doesn't run. And running from the desktop.

U have downloaded a trial version of the latest reckon accounts to access the data file and it says I need to download version 2007/2008 to convert it. Can you advise best way to convert the data file to work in the latest so it can be used while trying to get quickbooks 8.1 to work.

    Cheers
    Jay

Hi Jay, in order to open the company file with the latest version of Reckon Accounts Business, please follow the path QuickBooks 2002 >> QuickBooks 2007-08>> Latest Version.

Click here to get the trial downloads of the following versions.

Once the file is upgraded to the latest version then you cannot open the same file in QuickBooks 8.1.

    Regards,
    Shakir
