Quickbooks desktop upgrade after new hard drive installation

Quickbooks Plus 2011/12

I have replaced the hard drive on my computer, have re-installed QB, and activated it with my license key.

Now when I try to open a set of accounts I'm advised that the accounts have been upgraded to a newer version, so I need to either restore an old backup from before the upgrade (no way, years of data between then and now!) or upgrade QuickBooks. When I use the Upgrade option from the File menu within Quickbooks, it launches the internal browser and just hangs trying to contact the server.

I contact customer service and they suggested I trawl through knowledgebase articles. One I found had an upgrade link, but that just returns a 404 'Page not found' error on the website.

And then customer service simply closed my enquiry and sent me a feedback survey.

I have three businesses set up with three separate sets of accounts in Quickbooks. Is there now no way to upgrade them? Have I lost all the data for these businesses?

Is there a website link where I can follow the upgrade path required to get access to my data?

Hi Marshall,

Just quickly - if you think that is correct version 11/12- it is possible you need to load any update patches - such as tax scales for that version - look on reckon website for these.

If 11/12 is correct, the software will need these loaded before it will open your file!

Thanks for the reply Gillian. It's definitely 2011/12 - I've still got the box and original CD. And it says 2011/12 on the welcome screen.

I don't think I've ever run tax scale updates because I don't use payroll.

I found these updates but they don't go back to 11/12, and when I click on the closest one - 12/13 - and enter my customer ID and pin, it just returns a blank page anyway.
