Quicken 2009 Personal Plus: Transfer Cancelled error

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with reinstalling Quicken as per the guidance provided in the forums. The reason for the reinstall is that transferring between two accounts causes a "Transfer Cancelled" message so I've gone to the Quicken 2009\HAB\DISK1 folder and run ISsetup.exe file as an Administrator.

Everyone goes through smoothly until I get an "Error 1305: Error reading C:\.....Quicken 2009.msi. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it".

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I cannot continue with the install.

Thanks in advance, Warren

Robyn,

I sure did. That was the first thing I went through before posting the question. I'm out of ideas and now with a stuffed version of Quicken. Hope you can give me some other ideas.

Just a few thoughts

1. did you right click & run as administrator on that file when running it?

2. how old is the CD?

3. did you snooze your anti-virus prior to running?

4. did you do a full clean uninstall prior to trying to re-install?

5. I know this is USA help but may be wirth a try: https://www.quicken.com/support/error-1305-error-reading-file

6. I have in the past had to copy the whole CD into a file on my computer (desktop will do) & then run the file again, you can then delete the folder  after installation.

7. I also googled that whole error and it sounds a bit like it could be a corrupt windows installation but I am no tech expert, I only know the actual program.  Try googling the whole error message yourself too.

8. Not sure if Rav or Luke have any other suggestions?

Let us know what the result is.

Thanks, Robyn Kelly

1. Yes
2. 2009 - but with CD's I copy it onto a hard disk just in case the CD becomes unreadable. I have run the install from my temp drive.
3. No - I can try that tonight
4. I did a uninstall, not a full clean - I can try that tonight
5. I did check the attributes and Read Only was not ticked. I will try the Windows Safe Mode.
6. Refer to (2), I ran the install from the computer, not CD as my laptop doesn't have a CD drive (obsolete nowadays).
7. Not convinced it's Windows as it's a fresh install on a new laptop.

Will post results over the weekend. Thanks for your pointers anyway.

Hi Robyn,

No luck at all. Nothing worked.
I tried to run Quicken2009.msi as Administrator and that failed.
I tried to run Setup.exe as Administrator and that also failed.
Running out of options.

Any other ideas?

Hi Warren - so you tried a full clean uninstall, snoozed anti-virus and tried to re-install using safe mode?  Just clarifying those steps.

Hi Robyn,
Full clean uninstall, turned off anti-virus. I was not able to re-install using safe mode as it gave me an install error. I wish I noted the exact message but basically it installed half way and then halted.
I'm stumped now and frustrated with this software.
Cheers, Warren

Warren if you could PLEASE try the re-install again in safe mode that would be very much appreciated as the error code would help us work out what is going wrong.  If you could please take a screen shot?

Regards, Robyn

Robyn,
Just tried it again. No luck.
Attached a screen shot. Looks like the file doesn't like to be installed in Safe mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And just to be sure I am running the ISsetup.exe (as Admin) in HAB\DISK1 folder?
Thanks again, Warren

Some very sound advice & assistance here and looks like you've followed everything Warren but unfortunately looks as though something is still blocking the install.

Are you able to utilise Selective Startup mode to attempt the installation?

Rav,

Unfortunately Selective Startup mode did not work.
I've attached a screen shot to show you the error message.

Warren I notice you have the folder in a temporary folder on your google Drive.  Is it possible to please put the folder on your desktop?  Can you try that please and then try and install again.

Let me know, Regards, Robyn Kelly

Just making sure you copied the whole download too - not just the HAB/Disk 1 folder?  Also try this please if it does still happen once the download is on your desktop:

  1. On your hard drive, find the file that is referenced in the error message.
  2. Right-click the file in the Search Results and select Properties.
  3. On the General tab, under Attributes, clear the Read-only checkbox.
  4. Click OK.

Again let me know

Robyn

Robyn,

The reference to the google drive is a folder on my local machine. Yes I've got the entire Quicken folders/files (copied from my CD). And yes that screen shot is the msi file that Quicken is complaining about.

What do you mean by desktop? That folder is on my C drive.

The path for my desktop is as follows:

Computer/C/Users/*YOUR_USER_NAME/Desktop

Can you cut & paste the Reckon CD folder into this path please?  Then try & install again.

That brings me to another question though, is this user the administrator user for your computer?

Regards, Robyn Kelly

Hi Robyn,

Voila! Copying the entire Quicken folder to the desktop worked! I'm not sure if that was in conjunction with the suggestion of Rav booting in Selective Mode as that is what I did as well. Nevertheless it installed and the transfers between accounts worked. Thank you and Rav very much for your help through the numerous iterations.

I won't take 100% credit, as it may have been a combination of both, but I think it was the fact that the folder was sitting in a temporary folder.

Doesn't matter, you have it working.

YAY, enjoy the weekend!
