Sometimes Accounts Personal/Quicken won’t launch.

You may get errors like:
  • This does not appear to be the same computer your copy of Quicken was originally installed
  • Quicken launcher has stopped working.
  • Error 1601, 1602, 1603: The application failed to initialise properly or The application has failed to start
Here’s what you can do about them.

This does not appear to be the same computer your copy of Quicken was originally installed.

This is an annoying problem that affects some users and as we have not been able to replicate the problem we are unable to give you an explanation for it.

The problem may be benign.  You also get the ReckonAccounts Activation Update screen opening, so just select Apply the renewal automatically using the Internet under Step 2 to resolve this problem.

If you have a 2012 and older version, setting Quicken to run in Compatibility Mode for XP sp2 and Run As Administrator, will help - right-click your Quicken icon > Properties > Compatibility

If this problem persists users have found the following items helped:

1. UAC was turned on when initially installed and activated, but now is switched off.  Turning UAC back on resolved it. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts.

2. The user account opening Accounts Personal/Quicken has lower permissions than the user that installed Accounts Personal/Quicken.  Giving that user Administrator permissions should resolve the issue.

Quicken launcher has stopped working

If your Accounts Personal or Quicken has been working fine and suddenly it produces this error, suspect a conflict with a recently installed application or automatic update.

Uninstall the new application and try again.

Restore your PC to its state before the automatic update

If this is a new PC and its your first time launching Accounts Personal/Quicken, then it may be some add-on that has been packaged with this PC.  Suspect anything that is marketed as “improving user experience”.

Often this problem is specific to particular brands.  In the past there have been issues with:
Quicken launcher Error 1601, 1602, 1603: The application failed to initialise properly or The application has failed to start.

This problem indicates that some minor Windows Operating system files that Accounts Personal and Quicken use are either, missing, out of date or corrupt.

You’d best refer to our article http://kb.reckon.com.au/kb/issue_view.asp?ID=3754  for full details on what to do.

Trust one of these solutions resolves your issue.
