Reckon Accounts 2016 is compatible with webmail

Just incase any readers were not aware, the 2016 release of Reckon Accounts Business Desktop range, is now fully webmail compatible.

What this means is, you can now send emails from Reckon Accounts Desktop, to your Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail accounts (and more), without the need for Outlook!

This means no more compatibility issues with Microsoft Office, and no longer do you need Outlook installed just to be able to send email from Reckon Accounts.

Well worth upgrading for in my opinion!

Once Reckon Hosted is upgraded to 2016, this feature will also be available in Hosted.

It is Nathan! Finally a request we have been asking for has come through! I know a few people who will be happy that Outlook isn't needed any more!

But be aware sadly it does have some issues with emails disappearing into black holes if RA2016 can't contact the email server (server down, internet connection down, wrong email password etc).

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the comment.

One correction though, Reckon Accounts Hosted 2016 will not allow users to send via webmail. The Hosted email service will be upgraded later in the year and one of its features will be your email address showing as the sender rather than the generic accountshosted@reckon.com.

regards,
John.

Thanks Andrew, nice to see you back.

Will run your findings past the developers.

Thanks John! Back for a bit, see how it goes this time round ;)

If you could get the Devs have to have a look and see what they think. Not asking for a queuing system, just some user feedback if the email wasn't sent correctly.

this way users know it wasn't sent, so they can correct the issue or retry sending again. Otherwise users will end up with unpaid overdue invoices, lost statements etc. as they didn't go out/

Also as pointed out in this thread https://community.reckon.com/reckon/topics/reckon-accounts-2016-is-out-and-thoughts-so-far there is a bug with displaying the email on single emails being sent too when using webmail. If that could be looked at too ;)

Thanks John, yes Andrew, that's why it's always a good idea to check your sent mail!

Yes checking the sent mail is wise, but it does depend on the volume of emails being sent. Sending out a handful of invoices/statements once a month, you can do this method. Sending out lots of invoices daily and 100's of statements a month, its a LOT harder to verify they have been sent.

Its a great improvement for sure, just needs a little extra code to detect emails entering the black hole and we'll be happy chaps!

What if you like using Outlook? Does it still work?  Well it wasn't bug free even with Outlook but at least it worked.

Yes outlook still works as good as it ever use to! So you're in luck there :)
