Don't know much about this software as im just sorting it for a friend. Bringing up cash sales and printing monthly sales takes about 5 minutes to load. Tried disabling antivirus as well - as firewall. Computers are all up to date and fast. Also any way to automatically select the company file and auto login the user when opening the program? Seems to be unnecessary steps when logging into the software. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Windows 7 btw with avast anitvirus.

Hi Blake,
Are you still having an issue?
For speed issues go to the company file folder and delete the files with the extension .nd and .tlg.
Is this installation networked with other computers and sharing the one company file? Ensure only the Server is hosting the company file, or in a peer to peer network, only the PC that is storing the company file.
See the KB 3626 for these steps.
Unfortunately, in a company file with users defined, you will always be asked for a password.

John

Hi mate - thanks for your help - Im really not familiar with this software - I do know however the target company file this computer was using was a local c: path - there is only one other computer on the network and that one is also the same slow speed. Not sure if that points to the same company file or not but they are both ridiculously slow when searching the file. Could we make the file smaller or something ? Its not a MASSIVE company I would say they probably do about 20 - 30 sales per day. Thanks again

Thanks for the additional info Blake,
You'd be best to call Technical Support to help you configure the Reckon Accounts network properly.
Firstly, the company file should be in a shared folder so that two computers can access it (or does the other computer come up with a message about an "Alternate Setup"?)
On the main computer, the one that has the company file stored, go to File > Utilities. You should see the option Stop Hosting multi-user access. If you see Host multi-user access, click on it.
On the other computer, at File > Utilities, you should see the option Host Multi-user access. if you see Stop Hosting multi-user access, click on it.
Hope this improves your performance.
regards,
John

Hi - once again thanks for your reply - so I'm gradually getting my head around the setup they have. So its in mulit user mode and the both computers are slow so its not just one. The company file is in a shared location (\OFFICE1-PC\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files) and both computers (office1 and office2) access the company file from here. Was wondering if the file size in an issue - its about 380MB - if that's too big can we get some help reducing the file size ? Also, tried stopping both of the antivirus software and it was still slow. Any more ideas/ help? Thanks in advance (the computers are in HOMEGROUP network as well if this helps)

also i might add - the computers seem to be networked through a netgear adsl modem. Probably not the most efficient way of networking, they're also using the onboard lan card. I can get a network switch and network them up through that to possibly increase the bandwidth? Thoughts?

Hi Blake
Some things to try- Look at firewall settings on Office1-PC http://kb.reckon.com.au//issue_view.asp?ID=220
- Does File > Print Forms > Invoices (sales Receipts etc) have a zillion things waiting to print? if yes, print to a pdf generator or take printer offline then kill the print job.
- Rebuild datafile http://library.reckon.com.au/library/pdf/QBi_Rebuilding_data_file.pdf
- Create a Portable Backup. Rename and move datafiles (*.qbw and *.tlg). Restore portable to original name.

Every little bit of optimisation will likely help for the situation you are facing.
The size of the file is not 'too big', we've recently received a data file that is 1.7GB in size for example and there have been no complaints about its performance (hardware and environment may be vastly different, however).
It may be a good idea to determine when the system was actually performing to a reasonable expectation.
If the performance and responsiveness has only very recently changed, then identifying what may have recently changed could determine the best course of action.
Your problem description stated:Bringing up cash sales and printing monthly sales takes about 5 minutes to load.
You'd need to be more specific about what it is that you printing should you end up engaging one of our technicians for further troubleshooting sessions.
