Hi Rod,
Welcome to the Reckon Community and thank you for your question. Can I ask you to try the same with the sample file to isolate the issue.
To open a sample company file-
Go to the File menu and click Close Company.
This will close the company file that you currently have open.
-
In the No Company Open window, click the Open a Sample File button and choose the sample company file you want to use.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Cheers

Hi Mustafa,
Thanks for the welcome and quick reply. I have done has you suggested and it worked OK. I have also restored a previous backup and that worked OK too. It seems to be a random fault where after some sessions the program locks at either back up or normal close, but then works OK if I restore an earlier back up.
On two occasions I have uninstalled then reinstalled the program with no improvement.
I note that the restored files appear in both the normal QUICKEN directory and also the BACKUP directory within the QUICKEN directory (with an additional xxx.IDX file in the BACKUP, is this to be expected?)
Cheers
Rod

Hi Mustafa,
I have some further information - The problem seems to be when I enter transactions in one of two property and debt accounts. The lock up occurs after I transfer from one account to another, making the balance in the latter zero.

Hi Rod,
Thank you for the additional information, that helped us to identify it is a file related issue.
I would like you to follow the below steps:
1. Firstly we will make a copy of the file
Go to File > File operation > Copy (give the new name not more than 15 characters & no special characters) > ensure all transaction dates are selected > save it to a location and note down (for future reference of file location).
When given the option what file to use, select “use the copied file”. This sometimes fixes data file related issues. Test it now to see if issue still persists.
2. If it fails, use Validate utility to check the copy of the file for damage. From the File menu, choose File Operations, and then choose Validate.
Select the copy of your Quicken file, and then click OK.
Test it now again to see if issue persists.
3. Super Validation of the file
From the File menu select File Operations. Then holding down the Control and Shift Keys together, select "Validate".
A Select File window will open with a list of data files. Select your file and click on the OK button. You can now release Ctrl Shift keys now.
It will now Super Validate your file.Test it now to see if it has resolved it.
Also when you create a backup it will create multiple files which are part of backup in older than 2013 versions.
Now If you are in Reckon Accounts Home & Business 2013 you can create a backup in as a single file File > backup > Tick the option Backup data to compressed archive(.rkn) file
NB: this backup cannot be opened when you double click on it as the extension is a .rkn format not the older one as .QDF
I hope the above helps. Please let me know how you go as that might help our future customers.
Cheers

Hi Mustafa,
I couldn't make a copy of the file within RA as suggested but did make a reliable back up so then ran the validate. The problem still existed so I then ran the super validate.
So far I have had no further crashes so it seems to have been fixed.
Thanks for your help1
