Accounts Plus 2013
After pressing the Reconcile button in a Bank Account reconciliation window, the screen lightens and Accounts Plus becomes Not Responding. I have to go to Task Manager to shut Accounts Plus down. On reopening the data has not become corrupted and the transactions in the Bank Account register have been reconciled.
Does anyone know why Accounts becomes Not Responding happening?

    Hi Philip,
Not responding is typically Window's way of saying "all resources are in use at the moment so I am not sure what is happing and I am working as hard as I can". Processing a bank reconciliation is a complex process that requires the database manager to mark multiple records within the transaction table as "reconciled". Not responding just means that the computer's resources are "maxing" out which could be because the machine is just under resourced or you are running either a number of applications at the same time and or have a number of background services running as well all consuming resources.

    Two things:
1 - review what applications are running at the time and consider this against your computers RAM & CPU
2 - Do not close out, wait until the computer responds as whilst you have been lucky so far, closing out during any database update process can cause corruption. Best thing to do is to step away, go make a coffee and wait for the application to respond.

    Thanks for the advice.
The PC is newish with an Intel i5 CPU and 8Mb RAM. I don't think it is a resource issue.
I have waited 5 mins and it just hangs.
I found another thread similar that suggested Printer Port confusion with the PDF convertor. Should I explore this?

Yes, you should have plenty of grunt.
Printers and print driver conflicts definately cause hanging so yes, explore that.

    I have solved...with the following.

    1. You must open Reckon Account 2013 as an Administrator.

    2. You must reassign the printer to a new port following the below:

This is copied from another post Why can’t I Save to PDF or Email with Accounts Business?

Close Accounts Business and delete the printer files QBPRINT.QBP and wpr.ini. I renamed more than one copy of each in case I needed to reactivate them.

Open Devices and Printers>Right click QuickBooks V4 PDF Converter, select Printer Properties and then click into the Ports tab.

To assign QuickBooks V4 PDF Converter to its own port and Click Add Port>Highlight ‘Local Port’ then click New Port>Enter a name> Okay > Close.

Now you’ll need to configure the new port. Click into the Advanced tab then:

    (1) Select ‘Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster’

    (2) Un-tick the check box labelled ‘Enable advanced printing features

    (3) Select 'Print directly to printer

That post went on to say to disable Print Spooling in Task Manager. DO NOT DO THIS, it will disable all printing. I had to re-enable print spooling and reboot, after which everything worked fine.

Thanks for sharing your fix ... it works for QB Pro 12/13 as well. Many frustrating hours have been spent while QB shuts down with each reconcile :)
