My file of over 10 years is now slowing down and needs to be reduced.
In the old quick books you could archive older data , but now it just cleans up the file - this reduces the file size hardly at all and it is still slow, Surely Reckon could come up with an easy archive option... so far only advise is to start a new file.. what a pain and How do I continue working while I do this? Lift your Game Reckon.. should be a simple click of a button not starting a whole file where I have to import data etc.
Any one else encountered this ..please share.

Yes you would think it would be easy (like MYOB) but it isnt.  I had the same problem and started a new file on 30.6.2014.  I am currently using both files, the new one for current work and the old one to view historical data.  Trust me it is a mission but worth it in the long run.  You really need to plan ahead to do this and work some long hours to ensure it is all correct.  I would suggest consulting a specialist and having them help which is what I did.  Less than $1k and saved me zillions of hours of work.

The quickest and easiest way to reduce the file size and to increase the performance is to take portable backup and restore this over your current file. This also helps to reduce file fragmentation, another cause of speed issued

HI Kevin, thanks for feedback. By portable back up do you mean a back up to a different drive like a USB , if so I have tried this and yes it has reduced the file by about 8% but think ultimately might have to do as Linda recommended, just finding time to do it! Cheers

    Thanks
Linda, I was hoping to avoid doing it this way! but seems I will probably after to resort to this eventually. We have a big break over the Dec/Jan holidays and think that might be time to do it as we have such big issues to cover if I start new file. Appreciate feedback. Was hoping for reply from Reckon?
    Cheers

No. I meant a portable backup which is different to a regular backup. The file extension is qbm not qbb. Cheers Kevin 0407744914

I have had the same problem. Quickbooks was getting rather slow on a 5 year old computer, using Quickbooks 2011/12. So I bit the bullet and paid over $1,000 for an update to the current version, and then bought two new computers, a laptop with an i7 core, and fast desktop. I got Win 7 on the laptop, so I had some backwards compatibility, and expect some improvement in speed. When I installed it it was fast! But after a couple of days it was even much slower than the old version on the old computer! So I wiped it off, and reloaded from the disc instead of the internet. No improvement.

The main frustration is start up. From clicking the icon to the 1st Recon screen is 23 seconds and takes a full minute 1:04 to show the login screen plus another 1:02 before one the use the program. In total 4 minutes and 6 seconds from clicking the icon to using, and this is not counting the keys strokes needed for the password.

For a busy person for who there are never enough minutes in the day, this is totally un-acceptable after laying out about 4 grand!

Oh, I should say the file was last restarted in 2009, is 116 mb in size and has about 26,000 transactions.
I have complained to Rekon, and they have told me to resort the lists, verify the data, rebuild the data, and use the portable file to re-load the data. I have done all this, and the results are no better, with the times shown above taken AFTER doing all this....   It is not just the start up which is slow either. Asking it to search for a customer name is so slow it is faster to scroll through the list!

So I am now going  to start the process of making a new file and will see if I can go back the start on the last financial year, so I have most of the stuff I need on hand. I'll use two computers and see how I go. If, as I suspect, there is no real improvement, I will be demanding my money back.

Has anybody else had the same problems and found a way of fixing it?

    Regards, Ian
