Restore archived data back to current company in Payroll Premier

Hello,

A few months ago, we moved Payroll Premier to a new computer as we were having troubles running it on older hardware (issues specifically with STP reports, changing to date paid, etc. - these all took 20-30 minutes to complete).

Before resorting to the upgrade, one of our strategies to resolve the issues was to archive our payroll data and remove it from the company file to speed things up.

The archive and removal was successful but it did not solve our issues; the upgrade however, did solve many of them (it was an old and slow hard drive causing them).

Now things are running smoothly, however we want to reintegrate the once archived and removed data back into our current company file.  This will allow us to see the complete pay run history of all of our employees since inception without having to access the archived file separately - very handy as you can imagine!

Is there any way to make this happen? Can the old archive be brought into the company file or can we archive the new data and bring it into the old archive?  We have performed a number of pay runs in the months since the archiving and obviously want to keep this new data intact, while bringing the old stuff back in.

Hi Joe,

I did this last year at the end of the financial year, but I created a new company file name with a slightly different name. 

You could save your old data under a different company file name so you can still view it. We shortened the old data file name so that we didn't accidentally choose it to process, which can be easily done.

Our old data is under another company file and we can access it when we need to do so (e.g. to check old pay runs that have been archived). However we want to integrate the archived data into our current company file so that we do not have to switch between companies each time we want to revisit old data.  Is that something you have been able to do?

For example:

the following files were generated from the archiving process:
• archived_company.CMP
• archived_company.INI
• archived_company.QPB
• archived_company.ARC

we have accessed the archive and generated the archived company file:
• archived_company.QPW

lastly, we have our current company file that contains our current data:
• current_company.QPW

Is there any way to take the data from archived_company.QPW and integrate it into current_company.QPW?  Or is there a way to do the same with the archived files?

Hello again, bumping this up so hopefully someone can add to Jennie's response.

There was recently an instance where a long term employee wanted their leave totals verified by seeing the sum of their hours worked, leave accrued and leave taken.

We ran the relevant reports in our current company, but then had to open the archived company and run the reports again, manually adding the two sub-totals up to get a total figure.

This is cumbersome and I'm interested to see if we can amalgamate the company files so this can be avoided.
