I am using Personal Plus - is there any way to share a file (two licenced users of personal plus want to have a common file)

Hi Peta. Very risky as there is definently. no multiuser cababilities. I guess you could use a hosting platform. But still would not be able to acess the file at the same time. Alternatively have a remote acess on a dedicated computer that you both could acess. Again you both would not be able to use it at the same time. What functions of Personal Plus are you using. What is the purpose? Kind regards Kim Chapman Www.Chapmanofficeservices.com I

    Hi Peta

It can be done  but :

1.If you each have a program license and  your PC's are NOT connected then need to be very careful that whichever user is currently active is using the most current  data file  (or  restored backup) so not very convenient  & a risk of mucking up your data

    2. However if you network say 2 PC's   and use a common data file, that works reasonably "OK"     My wife & I  use Home & Business & have a mix of personal finances & her business, but  PP is similar  for this exercise .  We network our 2 PC's using "Home Group" , the data file resides on her PC  in Documents folder & you have to set this folder to Share with the other PC . With my PC,  let's  call it the "remote PC" , when I start  my program it always pops up with "Welcome to Quicken Accounts" every time & you have to select whether new or existing user & then the next Box appears & have to instruct  my PC  where to find the data file over the network. There is a wait before it all loads up  & away you go & at least you know you are accessing the current version of the data file. These steps do not occur on the PC  that has the data file The restrictions are of course only ONE  of you can be working in the program at any given time , it is not a true multi- user facility . You do get an error message concerning dll's  if you  try to log on while the other use is active .  Anyway its not great but it does work in our situation even if we cannot work on the program concurrently .

It would be a great enhancement particularly for H&B where it is not just personal finances involved  to have a true multi-user facility even if restricted to say  2 users ????

Hi Peta I agree Steve's option 2 is the best, just with care. I have never had the requirement to do this, thus was not sure it would work, but good to know it is possible, in a fashion. Just please make sure you backup. Option 1, can be done but with extreme risk of loosing data. At the point a client generally wants to start doing this, that is the point I will (if possible) switch them to cloud).
