Simplified BAS - not really!!!!

Every month I have a problem using the simplified BAS which results in many phone calls back and forth from the ATO to Reckon both which have you on hold so long that the fix takes all day and each one blames the other.

Last month somehow my software id changed between Reckon and the ATO, which I clarified with the ATO and was eventually able to lodge.  Yesterday we got the following message "The message type text of the request is not known by the receiving agency" and today the message is "the software used to generate this request has not been registered with the SBR".  I have tried to phone both Reckon and the ATO but have to answer phone calls and attend to customers at the same time resulting in that I just have to hang up because I cannot be on hold for half an hour at a time.

I have also had previous problems which has led to being late with lodging and am now somewhat so frustrated that I think we need to go back to paper lodgement as between Reckon and the ATO I loose a couple of days work each month, it appears that this simplified BAS is not really simple at all and is not up to scratch yet!

Hi Kerrie.  I can only sympathise with you over the frustration that you are going through.  What I am going to say is not necessarily going to go down too well with a lot of people, but, I don't go through the problems that you have.  The reason is very simple.  I use the "old fashioned method" of using an Auskey.  Yes, perhaps it might take me some five minutes or more to lodge my BAS by this method, rather than doing it through Reckon, if it works like it should.  The good thing is that the Auskey method works, works very simply and works very efficiently, without the frustrations that you are going through each month.  I don't have to get frustrated with a new technology which appears to have flaws.  So my suggestion is to save yourself a lot of time and frustration and just use an Auskey, until such time as Reckon believe that they have all of the problems sorted out.

Kerrie  I have always lodged using the auskey. The only time it does not work is sometimes when the ATO update and for a while perhaps one needs to update Google or Firefox to make the auskey lodgement compatible with the ATO's software. Otherwise for me, auskey is the only way to go. New technology can be good, but we don't have to use it if the process we are currently using gives us a result without problems.

I had the same error. Spoke to the ATO. Today I tried again and changed the date range to search for documents to the 30th November and it worked
