Renee,
The start date that you see when setting up the specific employee profile refers to the employee's start date not the start date of initiating STP.
Please note, the free micro-business STP app is only for businesses with 1-4 employees, if you have 6 employees I'd recommend checking out a payroll product such as Reckon One Payroll - https://www.reckon.com/au/payroll-software/

The app was designed specifically with the ATOs low-cost solution requirements in mind.
See https://www.ato.gov.au/business/single-touch-payroll/in-detail/low-cost-single-touch-payroll-solutions/ for more info.

These requirements include those with 1-4 employees only. The ATO have advised that they will be closely monitoring and contacting employers who are consistently submitting pay run data for 5 employees or more. These employers will need to move to a payroll product, such as our new standalone Reckon One payroll that is just $5 per month (info here - https://www.reckon.com/au/payroll-software/)
