Just finished the first pays for 2016/17 and the tax is $20 more than last pays.  There hasn't been a tax increase that I know of?

    Hi Debbie,

Do you have any employees under a Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP)?

There have been changes to HELP and SFSS

Hi Debbie.  Is that the case for everybody in the pay or just an isolated person?  I have also run a pay today using the 2016 update tables and there has not been any change with any of my employees. There should not have been any change in general.    John L G

We started up a brand new company for the new FY so it has something to do with how I have set it up! Been backward and forward from last years and new and can't find any differences!  Any suggestions.

I don't see how you could do anything yourself to change things Debbie, unless you have elected to change the rate for everybody by requiring an extra $20 to be taken out each pay or last year you had $20 taken out less than it should have been.. Apart from what Rav mentioned, there have been no general changes in the tax scales now for 3 years.  Perhaps it might be worthwhile to run Rebuild, say two of three times and see if that fixes the problem.  Apart from the one customisation that I mentioned above, I am not aware of any other settings that can be changed by the user.  You didn't answer whether or not an exact $20 discrepancy is happening for everybody.  Have you checked the actual tax calculations against the ATO's Tax Calculator?

I have not seen any changes in my employee pays either. Was there meant to be one?

No Tanya.  There is no change to what was happening.  Because of the election, legislation for changes to tax rates will only happen after a new Government is elected.   John L G

Hi Debbie, Edit the Super item in the new file and make sure it doesn't have PAYG ticked, that is one common reason for too much PAYG to be calculated. Regards Neil
