Transactions imported using IIF file are not found in reckon
We are trying to import credit card transactions into reckon (reckon accounts hosted 2015) using IIF file. The screenshot of the file is attached for reference.
We get a message from Reckon that "the import is successful" but we can't find the imported transactions anywhere in reckon.
Can you please let us know if we are doing this wrong and if you need any further information.
Thank you.

Sandeep,
What did you base that IIF format on?
Your values for Column C (TRNSTYPE) are likely not valid.
Open Reckon Accounts program
Click on the Help menu
Click on Reckon Accounts Help
In the Search tab, use the keyword TRNS
View the steps in the help article 'Creating an import file'
Take note of step 7 for the valid Transaction types.* Data Recovery Team *

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. I created the IIF file from scratch using Excel & the references from help documents in Reckon. I tried the import again using CREDIT CARD as the TRNSTYPE but still no luck.
any further suggestions please?

Whilst the IIF format is no longer supported or being updated and the SDK based connectivity with the Reckon Accounts application is prefered, the existing functionality and capabilities of the IIF format remain intact.

Look again at your IIF file.
Why is Column B row 4 blank?
Consider removing column B. or putting sequential values there.

Whatever the IIF format can do, as of the last time it was updated will still work today. Whatever limitations the IIF format had, will remain limitations as it is no longer being updated. There will always be slight complications with these things and they are never easy. For more complicated scenarios, automation and the SDK which has more advanced capabilities are recommended. * Data Recovery Team *

yes, last updated 2002, thats the last time Intuit updated.
i have always after years of doing this now strongly emphasize automation is the way to to go and use of SDK , even this is now long over due for revision, should be the option .Can keep going on this topic of automation vs work arounds .

hi, I made some corrections based on the screenshot provided but still no luck. It says that the import was successful but no transactions can be found. here's the updated IIF file.
sorry to bug you again, this is the first time we are trying to import and there is no error coming up to rectify from our end. We can do screen share in skype if it helps.
Thank you.0 -
Copy the example, exactly as shown and confirm that it works successfully for you.
There is limited support for the IIF format.

Nope, still get the same message in the dialog box "the data is imported" but the transactions cannot be found anywhere in Reckon0

Hi Sandeep,
Send us a copy of the IIF that you have created, that follows the example we have provided. We will test this for you on a blank new data file to confirm whether we encounter the same situation that you have experienced, whereby the import is successful but the newly imported transaction cannot be found.
Send it to us using the ReckonA3 service.
Use the 'case designation' RAH2015-TRNSIIF so we can identify that it is from you.
Follow the instructions provided below.

Hi, I have dropped off the files yesterday evening and also again just now to make sure it was uploaded. Please let me know if you haven't received them.0
-
Hi sandeep,
Did you use, the 'case designation' RAH2015-TRNSIIF as we had instructed?
If not then it would likely end up in junk mail.
Here again are the instructions to follow.

The files we have received from you are not plain-text files.
They are some kind of zip archive or XML file.
We will not be opening these files.
You need to save a plain-text, tab-delimited file with the file extension ".IIF", not some XML or XLSX file that has had its file extension simply changed.

Hi,
sorry, I have resubmitted it now. Could you please check again.
Thank you.

Hi Sandeep,
Previously you sent us two files (both invalid formats).
We have now received one file called test_reckon_import_7.iif
This file is invalid and does not even begin to import.
By comparing the columns, this file is different to the first example you specified which you indicated at least gave a successful import message.
Will you be sending us the file you created, based on the example we provided?
Can you follow that example and confirm that it works for you.
Then plug-in your own values for names, dates, accounts, etc.

Hi Sandeep,
We attempted to import the file you created test_reckon_import_7.iif
It fails with the warning message. (Did you receive the same warning message?)
However it also displayed the data has been imported message.
Look at the first row of the test_reckon_import_7.iif file you created.
Now, look at the first row of the example we provided.
You can see that they are not the same.
Make your file headers look exactly like the example we provided.
Make the corresponding data rows match the order of the headers.
----------------------
If you are attempting to import the example we provided into your data file, you need to make sure that the accounts, items, customer name, tax codes and tax items ALREADY exist. (if not, then create them)
----------------------
When we imported the IIF file you provided called "Book1.iif" which is based on the example we provided,
it successfully imported and successfully created the Credit Card Charge transaction.
-----
Before there are 9 transactions in the test file.
After the import there are now 10 transactions.
IMPORTANT:
Note that the Lists used in the transactions (Customer Name, Accounts and Items) for the example ALREADY EXIST in the test file.
Any transaction you are importing needs to have a corresponding list entry exist before transactions that make use of them are imported..* Data Recovery Team *

Hi,
Thank you for troubleshooting and explaining this in much detail.
We did receive that warning initially but after making changes to the file (this is the latest test_reckon_import_7.iif) the warning didn't show up.
Can you please further clarify on Customer Name, Accounts and Items.
?I'm assuming NAME maps to Customer Name, ACCNT maps to Account Name (but not account number) and what are Items ? Is that TAX CODE, TAX ITEM etc.
0 -
ACCNT = Account Name
NAME = Customer Name / Supplier Name
The INVITEM column in the SPL row, refers entities appearing in the Item List.
These are different to the Tax Items and the Tax Code.
If you open up the "Enter Credit Card Charges" screen in the Reckon Accounts software you will see that there is an Expenses tab and an Items tab.

Finally it worked!
Thank you very much for your patience. I actually had to include account number along with account name to get it to working.
Thank you once again.0 -
