Why does my copy of Reckon Accounts Home and Business always open with "Get Started" pop-up

I have transferred my copy of Reckon Accounts Home and Business 2017 to a new computer (The old one died).   Ever since then each time I open Reckon Accounts H&B, instead of it opening to the last file opened like it always has done, I am presented with the "Get Started" sequence of pop ups.   I can select a file and all works fine.   If I close the program and reopen it I have to go through the "Get Started" sequence again.

Hi Hugh, One possibility might be that you have a data file name which is longer than 8 characters. This is no longer acceptable, so try shortening the file name! Good luck, Bjorn

    Hi Hugh,

It is also possible that H&B does not have sufficient permissions to access the datafile from its current location.  Try moving the datafile with all its associated files ( HCX   IDX   QEL   QPH   QDF,, etc) to a dedicated folder in a location like Public Documents.

    regards,
    John

    Hi Bjorn, John G,

My problem is becoming deeper and I believe I have a corrupted install.   Reckon is now refusing to open at all.   It is freezing on the opening legal splash screen.   Will keep you posted on the outcome - it is the most important program I have on the PC.

Good evening all.   I have been frustrated with this problem and getting different symptoms each time I launched Reckon Personal 2017.  Sometimes it locked up at the splash screen (and I have to close it with Task Manager), sometimes it gave the message "Quicken Launcher Has Stopped Working" and sometimes it opened but only as a new user.   However I have found the solution.

It appears that Reckon must be installed on the operating drive (C:) AND the personal files MUST ALSO BE INSTALLED ON THE C: DRIVE.

My problem had come about because I installed Reckon on a new PC with a 120 GB SSD which holds only those programs that need speed, all other programs and all files are installed on the D: drive which is a standard 2 TB Drive.   After reinstalling Reckon onto the C: Drive the problem persisted.   I then moved my Reckon Personal Files directory from the D: Drive (User/Documents Folder) to a new C: Drive folder (User/Documents) and yippee once I managed to start Reckon, open a file from the new location I could close and open the program at will.

This setup of files being on a different drive to the operating system is the normal setup for modern PCs with an SSD, so more and more people are going to come across this problem.

Reckon you need to make this important information available somewhere.   I spent many hours uninstalling and reinstalling Reckon, purging directories and the like.

    Regards

    Hugh
