Why is the program behaving differently to what I remember in previous sessions or older product ver

There is a good chance that program preferences or other settings have changed.

So relax and check the program preferences and settings options first before assuming the worst or believing something is a bug.

Click the Edit menu and select Preferences
- check all the relevant sections (or check them all) 

or

If the issue appears to be with reports, click on the Modify Report button and look at what customisations and filters may be active.
