com port doesnt appear in quick pos

Com 1 appears in windows device manager but does not show in retail  pos 2009/10

    Check that the com port is not being used by another device. Start with your windows printers settings and make sure they are not using a com port.

    Did you set up the virtual com port?

    Hi Thanks for the replies
    Kevin it is an actual serial printer not usb so doesnt use Virtual com port
    POS Guru have checked, there was a printer setup using com1  ( the one I need)
    which i deleted and rebooted, only other serial printer is a virtual com port 4 (USB)
    Com 4 shows up in POS but not com 1
