Wrong. Your working file is a qbw file. The qbb file is a backup file.

No sorry Kevin. I'm not wrong. That's why I specifically wrote .QBB because that is my working file. I do not have and have never had since 2007 a .qbw file. Whether you think I am wrong or not, my problem still remains and RESTORE does not work with my .QBB file. Perhaps someone else out there knows the answer to my problem.0

Sorry Diane if you are using the Australian version 7.x then the data file has an extension qbw. How do I know this? I have been using the software since version 3. The qbb extension is unique to the backup file. If the file is a full working file you can take a copy and try changing the file extension to qbw. Sorry to be such a pedant but I haven't been wasting my time lo these past fifteen years. Regards0

I have a v7 installed for updating old datafiles. If you send me your file via wetransfer.com , I will see if I can open it.
And Kevin, sorry to be the one to break it to you, but it is possible for Dianne to have a company file in the format companyname.qbb

Thank you Graham. It most certainly is possible. I am not dumb and know what I am using. I have tried what Kevin said, ie. copying and replace the .qbb extension to .qbw then trying to open it that doesn't work either.
Somewhere along the way I must have open a .qbb backup file and just starting using it without restoring it....... How you ask? I have no idea, but I do know what I have been using and that's a .qbb as a working file.
Thanks for the offer Graham. I checked out wetransfer.com and it costs $120.00. Can you tell me if there is a free method? Last time this happened the Reckon Technician had me send my file to him via a free service, but thankfully I didn't end up needing to pay for his services because I was able to open the file directly from the C: File Directory.

Diane I did not mean to insult you. I apologise most profusely if I have offended you at all. You don't need to use a paid service for file transfers, if you have a gmail account you can use google drive. You can use Yousendit.com or sendthisfile.com.0

I am still intrigued as to how this can happen. It must be a fault in the header record. Long term I think you need to find a way to change the file extension to qbw anyway otherwise this is likely to happen again in the future. You might also struggle to get version 7 of QuickBooks to operate on Windows 8.0

I think the $120 if for the paid service. You can send up to 2Gb for free. Skip any adds that popup, and you get to a full page picture with this on the right-hand side:
sendbigfiles.com is a similar free service.
To Kevin: The file has been renamed or restored as companyname.qbb . The actual filename with the full extension shown is companyname.qbb.qbw - you can see this from the TLG and ND files on my test.qbb screenshot above. To "fix" it, the file just needs to be renamed from companyname.qbb to companyname, but this is the least of Dianne's worries at the moment.

Thank you for the apology Kevin. Yes, I was offended by your replies. Also thanks for the suggestion about the FREE file transfers. I'll keep them in mind should wetransfer.com not work.
I have used wetransfer.com Graham. You should have received the file by now.
I do agree with Kevin's suggestion about correcting the file extension for future use. I had already intended to try doing this once my current file is opened (if). I am currently using V7 in Windows 8 and it appears to be fine. The only issues I have had is when I had to change to a new computer, but I eventually was able to open the file from the File Directory as mentioned before and now after reformatting my new computer after Trojan issues. But this time nothing I do will enable me to open the file.
